Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.

It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties. It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.

Nobody should ever complain after watching a Robert Redford movie. After all these years, we know exactly what he's about and what he will show us. A lot of magnificent scenery with fantastic cinematography, and an old curmudgeon unaware that he's just waiting on a chance at redemption. Redford cares deeply about his movies and he always makes them high-quality and totally out of step with the current fashion. This is a good thing if you're not particularly enthusiastic about still more comic-book flicks and space fantasies and remakes and movies based on old TV shows, along with explosions and crazy driving. This time around, Redford is in fine form as always, and he has skillful backup, again as always. He's not interested in hogging the screen and insists on having perfectly-tuned performances from the other characters. There's really nothing left to say about Morgan Freeman, but Jennifer Lopez is the big surprise here. De-glammed from a magazine cover goddess to a naturally pretty, stressed-out, mistake-prone woman in her mid-30s and at the end of her rope, JLo fits right in with her esteemed colleagues and in fact holds her own with them. She's rarely praised for her acting, but she certainly deserves it for this role. These three hold down the center of the film, but everybody else in the cast also does superb work. Not a single dud in the bunch.Redford's Einar has let himself many years ago. He's unshaven, his hair sticks out in all directions, he's not clean nor does he wear clean clothes. He clearly just doesn't give a bowel movement. When I was little, I had a great-uncle who looked the same way and visits to his house were always guaranteed to be an experience. So Einar is an archetype, and a very good one. He and Morgan Freeman's Mitch are two very badly damaged men; Einar psychologically and Mitch physically. Meanwhile, JLo's Jean has run out of options and she's forced to turn to the one man and to return to the one place that she swore she'd never go near again. At first glance, the unfinished life in the title seems to refer to Einar's long-dead son, but it turns out that it's also about Einar and Jean and Mitch. All three had their lives stopped by some tragedy and they learn to finally move on with the help of the other two.Anyway, "An Unfinished Life" is an enjoyable, leisurely, easy-going movie experience and I highly recommend it. Especially if you're looking for a break from our routine movie options, like I said earlier.

This movie is about forgiveness , the feeling for another needs which leads to helping , without expecting anything in return Mr Redford once again played his role like no other . He played the character of an understanding man from the country who was grief stricken and lived with a hurt soul which needed healing and compassion . Jennifer Lopez , in my opinion one of the best performers around , she is a natural , phenomenal actress which helped bring closure to his wounds. All the characters carried some type of minor wounds and all the characters worked toghter in the movie and reached tolerance They accepted each other and their beliefs even though they had their differences . Each one of the characters had to conquer what was holding them from truly living and with time they all were successful Morgan Freeman has always been one of my favorite actors. He has always brought deep intelligence , self control and courage into his character. His compassion always seems to shine thru as most awe- inspiring actors do. His bear attack created a trauma which required forgiveness of an animal , which was a bear. There was something magnetic about the bear , and he was entertaining. It's too bad this movie never really had a big theater presence. I happened to find it on Netflix and was pleasantly surprised. You see J-Lo's name and think "ugh", and then Redford & Freeman "Hello!", but everyone is great in this movie and very believable. First I thought it was only going to be about the Woman & her Daughter running from an abuser, but it turned out to be so much more......an angry man who lost a son, a friend who is stuck in a damaged body, death, life, BEARS (lol!).It's heartfelt, simple, nothing fancy, but really makes you think about wasting time.

Why oh why did I watch it? I should have known: a Lasse Hallström film... This film is about learning to forgive people for their past sins and to forgive yourself for your own mistakes yada yada yada...watch the trailer or better yet, read the synopsis. It'll save you 108 mins of your life. The layer of emo-goo is laying on so thick that the slow moving plot almost gets stuck in it. If you've seen more than 50 movies in your life you've probably at least seen one of these. Unless you like seeing the same crap regurgitated over and over again I'd suggest you spend your time watching something you haven't seen before.
