The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.

American Sunset (2010): Dir: Michael Masucci / Cast: Cory Haim, Frank Molina, Bernard Robichaud, Angela Cullins, Wally MacKinnon: Engaging thriller about the dawn of consequence. Corey Haim plays a painter whose wife goes missing and he enlists the help of a private investigator to find her. Director Michael Masucci is backed by clever writing and locations that showcases grand opportunity filmmaking in Canada. Haim fares well as a flawed husband dealing with regret. What is even better is that much of the evidence doubles back upon himself thus creating a breach in trust. Frank Molina steals the film taking charge of the investigation yet dealing with alcohol and the hauntings of the Gulf War. He tells of his failed marriage and a child he never sees. Bernard Robichaud plays a smart and swift bounty hunter but what is intriguing about him is his ability to make mistakes. He is skilled and smart but there is a scene where his cover is nearly blown and Molina nearly targets him. Angela Cullins plays the victim who is examined through flashbacks. She is not quite the damsel that ads render her to be but despite her trauma she is still seen as intelligent and a strong willed female supporting player. Wally MacKinnon plays a detective investigating this missing persons case and dealing with Haim's outbursts. While it may not be praised to the full level of Hollywood blockbusters, it does sustain suspense and a screenplay that renders certain elements unsure. In the end this is a well made independent film about appreciating what you have before the sun sets to darkness. Score: 10 / 10

I want to start by disagreeing totally with the first review on this-all this user did was dig at Corey Haim and his acting. Have some respect! Corey Haim played a guy who has been drugged so the after effects lasted a while and the slurring and 'drugged up look' was intentional and well acted for your information!!! Not going to give things away but it was a great movie with some great twists and turns. Corey Haim and Molina were great. This was a great performance from the Haimster, such a shame he passed away when he did as he still clearly had the ability to act very well and was so loving and caring towards his fans. He was on his way back!!! COREY HAIM needs a star on the Hollywood walk of fame for all his great acting in the great movies!!!!!

The story starts out with Corey Haim being drugged and his wife being kidnapped. It get's a little wonky when Corey hires a PI to find his wife and he accompanies said PI all around town following clues. It's pretty interesting, but I never understood how both Corey and the PI were so far ahead of the cops that the police had even left clues at the initial scene of the crime. Both Corey and the PI sort of work through their initial angst with one another, and their own personal problems as well. They eventually become a quasi-buddy team. Which was sort of cool to watch. However without spoiling anything, the ending threw me for a loop. It went from dark and sort of a murder thriller, to being more of a underhanded business film. It was decent, worth a rental but not really a purchase. I was a big Corey Haim fan and it was cool to see him work in a newish film, he looked sort of tired in some scenes. But I guess that was due to the being drugged and his wife being taken? I would hope so. Grade Rating: C-
