Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.
... View MoreAfter playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.
... View MoreThe movie really just wants to entertain people.
... View MoreThis is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
... View MoreThis is a film that showed early promise, was a great idea, but the actors, dialogue, and plot couldn't bring it on. The film starts out as a reality film as they watch and interview a cheerleader. When she is killed while performing "America's most dangerous sport" her friend Maddy (Caitlin Stasey) takes her spot with the intent of enacting revenge especially on football player Terry (Tom Williamson). Added to this mix is witch Leena (Sianoa Smit-McPhee) who makes things happen with stones and crystals that act like a Monkey's Paw.The film takes 30 minutes to develop. It was good getting there. Once we entered into the meat of the film, the writers didn't know what to do. Or at least they didn't do it well. Character build up was mostly ineffective.Asylum production. Okay as an inexpensive rental.Parental Guide: F-bomb. Sex. Rape. Nudity (Reanin Johannink- or body double Mallory Thompson)
... View MoreI love the title & artwork for this film, assumed that it was a slasher movie but it isn't. The cheerleaders do indeed die, killed in a car accident caused by a jealous & drunken jock. Luckily(?) for them one of their friends happens to be a witch who brings the hot chicks back to life using magic crystals. Bloody havoc ensues. A bit slow to get going but once it does it's a reasonably good mix of horror & comedy with some decent gore thrown in. Definitely a film aimed at a teen audience, it does have a Buffy/The Craft feel, plus of course girls in bikinis & guys with 6 packs. Be sure to check the name on the grave in the final scene, the film suggests that this is Part One. Can't say that a sequel is something I'd get excited about though.
... View MoreI've never been a big fan of Lucky McKee, even though I've only seen a few of his films. He comes of to me as an utterly pretentious, man-tool feminist. And this mess of a "film" is no exception. There's nothing funny or clever here. We're presented with a cast completely consisting of truly fathomable characters. We're also expected to overlook ridiculous things like the idea that magic, glowing rocks bring a group of air-headed cheerleaders back to life with an inexplicable (and unexplained) taste for blood. So we have a bunch of surprisingly average looking girls (who's acting skills aren't much better) wandering around, glowing like light-brites as they suck the blood out of jocks with the wretched power of CGI. Dismal stuff with no redeeming values. Please spare yourself, and don't give this guy any more of your money. Horror cannot be achieved through metaphorical, feminist crap like this.
... View MoreI was expecting the usual, nerdy girl gets wounded then gets revenge on the popular girls. I personally don't care for chick flicks, this is one that blurs the lines between romance, horror and the occasional comedy. It's gory as hell, the special effects suck and only four of the female actors can act, but it's amazing. Not for people who didn't like evil dead or only watch a movie to see two girls getting it on. It's extremely rare to find a movie that actually creates a relationship between women and it's f**ked up in this one but still entertaining. If you were expecting a cheer movie, a horror movie or a chick flick, it isn't for you. It isn't the pinnacle of film but it's fun and bloody and has female characters that are gorgeous and psycho. Some of the actors actually surprised me, and the directing did, don't take it seriously and it's pretty enjoyable. The 'Leprechaun' franchise, spin off Jaws and any rom com with Adam Sandler could use a whole lot of tips from this movie.
