This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

A&C Fans will most likely be enamored by the Duo meeting another Monster, but Unlike the Others it's Not a "Universal" Monster. The Atmosphere in this one is Very Good with a lot of Fog, Good Costumes, Superb Transformations and Monster Masks, and a Story that is more Downbeat than most. Some Things come off as a bit Disturbing. Boris Karloff as Dr. Jekyll Spikes His Arm with a Needle, He could very well have just drunk the Stuff. Speaking of Drinking Costello gets Falling Down Drunk. There are other Needle Scenes too. A Sub-Plot about the Doctor's Unhealthy Attraction to His Female Ward. Lou Transforming into a Creepy Mouse is a Furry's Fantasy.Overall, the Plot is not as Silly as Usual and the Comedy is more Slapstick than Verbal. Most of the Gags are Done well Past their Due Date and go on Far Too Long. The Ending is a Never Ending Chase that is as Repetitive as it is Unfunny. Recommended for A&C and Horror Fans Only.

Not played entirely for laughs. The false faces on both Mr. Hydes look too large, as they have to be applied over the head, like "Frankenstein"! Great transformations of both Boris and Lou into the monster, not unlike the famous "Wolfman" sequence! It is way too scary for little kids and I suspect that's why the critics disliked it. Like "Ghostbusters" it's humor was misunderstood. Lou also turns into a giant fuzzy mouse after accidentally drinking a weird formula meant for one of the lab animals. Very atmospheric with excellent sets and costumes. A bit unusual with the doctor showing a slightly unhealthy interest in his young "ward". The lab worker is demented-looking. A really unnecessary character? The two "monsters" are chased all over London as they are both dressed in similar clothing with capes. Great ending when Costello bites several policemen that all turn into "Mr. Hyde" temporarily. Still one of my favorite A&C comedies. I saw many of these around 1956, often a free Saturday Matinée, with a wrapper from a Mars candy bar! Probably disliked by the critics due to the fact that two villains "die" along with a few extras? I guess it's okay to kill some other monsters off in the rest of the series? Costello remains the "Prince of Prat-Falls" as always. The 2015 re-release (2 discs-4 movies) is wonderful with clean, crisp copies.

This is an example of a good idea but one that looks like it was done too many times. This is the boys second movie with Karloff (the other being several years earlier). This one is just not as good. What is missing here is John Grants script writing. When Grant writes, he remembers that A&C are verbally funny and give them some oral comedy. That is what this film is missing.Oh, if only the idea had at least gotten some of Grants dialog got into this, the opportunities are here as the boys have several sequences with Boris, but alas, they are not to be. There is plenty of physical comedy.

Slim and Tubby (Bud Abbott and Lou Costello) are two bumbling American policemen studying the techniques of the British police. They get into a bit of trouble and are kicked off the force. Tracking down the monster that has been terrorizing London would seem to be a way to get them back in the good graces of the police force. Along the way, Slim and Tubby are befriended by a seemingly kindly doctor named Jekyll. But Jekyll is not what or who he seems. He's actually the killer our "heroes" are hunting.Another childhood favorite, I hadn't seen Abbott and Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in literally two or more decades. I was worried that it would never live up to the fond memories I've built up over the years. Overall, I enjoyed it. Considering it's one of A&C's later films, it's a solid effort. Part of the reason may be that the boys didn't revisit their classic routines as I've noticed in some of the other movies from this period. And the fact that the boys work within the framework of the plot helps. Whatever, it's just fun. The chase scenes are the highlight for me. I found myself laughing at the same things I found funny 35 years ago. And it's always nice to see Karloff. His scenes with the boys are quite good. If it weren't for the scenes where Costello is turned into a mouse that I find utterly ridiculous (even in the framework of an A&C movie) and that put a drag on the flow of the movie, I might have rated Abbott and Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde even higher.
