A Field in England Trailers

During the Civil War in 17th-Century England, a small group of deserters flee from a raging battle through an overgrown field. They are captured by an alchemist, who forces the group to aid him in his search to find a hidden treasure that he believes is buried in the field. Crossing a vast mushroom circle, which provides their first meal, the group quickly descend into a chaos of arguments, fighting and paranoia, and, as it becomes clear that the treasure might be something other than gold, they slowly become victim to the terrifying energies trapped inside the field.

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

*Warning* If you're one of those people who need meanings and conclusions then don't even bother. Watching films should be about opening your mind to new things and exploring new concepts. To those who criticise for those very reasons: Don't be ridiculous darlings! Now, here's what I think.I remember watching this and much like any of Ben Wheatley's films, was memerised by the surrealism and boundary pushing style he seems to have a knack for. After being gobsmacked by Kill List, I was so happy to get this on DVD and finally watch it.Not many directors dare to go for setting the majority of their film in one setting. But Wheatley pulls it off making the whole journey both interesting and intentionally confusing. It invites the viewer to think for themselves and come to their own conclusions. The psychedelic side adds a more violent edge, not in terms of graphic or gratuitous violence, but more like the Jim Morrison LSD fueled psychedelic violence of the music they made. Aggressive and uncompromising...even poetic. This might be a bad explanation if you're not into music. The black and white works well as does the simple setting. There aren't any flashy backdrops here or groundbreaking camera techniques, just the actors in a field giving it their best and yes their best is awesome.I wanted more from this, even, dare I say it a sequel of sorts to show what happened before/after these events. Open your mind and enjoy the ride.

Basically there's one scene in the film with a man with a screwed up face walks out of a tent with a rope attached to him in slow motion propped up by the only one good song Blank mass ever did.The rest of the film is a load of ex comedy actors rambling on about nothing. And because there's no story or purpose,it suddenly qualifies as deep and arty? Its the normal middle class rubbish that gets praised by the privileged mummy and daddy university bum licking arty crowd, trying to make something gritty with depth. Its cheap filth on a low budget trying to make a quick buck. And just because the director is plump and has a serious face with one of those cliché director beards and has channel 4 hanging out his arse and makes silly gangster and serial killer films with actors who over do it in the facial expressions department.Doesn't make this a gem. This film should be left to burn in a field somewhere but hopefully not in England.I would not want to wipe it off my feet......

This movie is like Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey" transported back to England in the middle 1660s. The acting, costumes, speech and action are all very good, excellent. The whole effect is what one would imagine the English Civil War period would be like. The film is abstract, metaphorical and profound in its character interaction. I felt I "was there", transported back in time. The story-line is meant to be obtuse and may put a lot of people off. It's difficult to understand. However, the overall effect is very good. I recommend this film to anyone who is into knowing something about what men were like in the middle 1600s in England. I also recommend this film to anyone who enjoys something that is not usual.

Playing field or whatever field your cup of tea is (no pun intended). This film that is a strange step to take for the director (especially considering the movie he did before this), works more than nicely. It is black and white and it is very strange, while being medieval it does have a few strange fantasy moments thrown in there for good measure. The acting is really good and it gets violent (might get away in some countries with some of it, because of the missing color to show the real consequences of some of it) more than once. This is not flavor of the month, but something that will either entice you or appall you from the start. So if you are checking this out, you should know quickly if you want to follow this road
