The first must-see film of the year.
... View MoreIt's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.
... View MoreIf you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.
... View MoreLet me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
... View MoreVisionary director Travis Fort brings a story of courage and desperate survival to the screen in grand style. Working from an inspired screen play penned by Paul Sinor and Victoria Dadi, Fort creatively produces vast vistas of frozen waste, ice encrusted cities, and surging glaciers. This is a film that's nothing less than majestic in scope and staggering in its intensity. Those fighting for survival are played by a superb cast of actors who bring humanity and depth to their characters. Patrick Labyorteaux give a truly fine performance and Julie McCullough contributes some excellent support. Based on the very real possibility that a monstrous volcano might well erupt and cause a giant glacier to cover North America, this is not only outstanding science fiction but an vital cautionary tale for our time.
... View MoreDirectors have to start off somewhere. Scorsese, Coppola, Howard got a start under Roger Corman. So let's cut Asylum films some slack who make low budget rip off films for recent cinema releases which go straight to DVD and then the SciFy channel. However this riff of 2012 and The day after tomorrow is plain bad. Bad acting, bad effects, bad script, its straight from the Ed Wood school of filmmaking.A glacier is on its way to the USA and causing havoc from snow storms to people freezing instantly. The special effects must have been produced on a PS2 as our heroes travel to New York to rescue their daughter as others head west. So they somehow drive on cleared roads while there is a snowstorm and stupid things happen or are said because the script demands it.The film is not a total fail as you make allowances for its micro budget and its speedily made but its a mess and barely watchable. I just hope Asylum manage to produce a fraction of the directing talent of Corman.
... View MoreC'mon, Mr Travis Fort (if that's your real name)... you can do better. You have a volcano in Iceland blowing up (OK, well set), that somehow (?) pushes a giant lacier towards the Eastern coast (you even checked a map to see that Newfoundland would be hit first... great research!). When it gets there, huge ice chunks fall from the sky, crushing buildings, cars and people (nice). And... where are the sharks?? You know, hungry, super-intelligent sharks frozen for a gazillion years and now coming down hard on unsuspecting people? This movie is beyond atrocious. It's worse in script, acting, editing and cgi than the most basic YouTube videos you can find out there. My 8 year old likes to make stop motion videos with his teddy bear, and this movie makes him look like a second Hitchcock or Kubrick. The plot is confusing to the extreme, the editing should be considered a crime up there with child molestation, and the acting... well, Patrick Labyorteaux got a job a few years back in JAG, and has been doing this since he was a kid. You would expect at least he learned something just by being there. Regarding the lady that performs as his wife, she looks and acts as if she just came out of rehab (or needs to go there); wish her the best, don't take any more crack. The girl (her daughter in the movie) was passably hot, they got at least that right. I didn't care about the kid; he will follow his "mom" into rehab in a couple of years. How did I end up watching this aberration? Looking for a simply bad movie (2012) on Netflix. I said "what the heck?" and ended up streaming it. It only cost me half an hour of my life (I had to fast forward it, it's impossible to sit through it all). So Mr. Travis Fort owes me half an hour of my life and some bandwidth. Just quit directing (under any name... no tricks) and we will call it even.
... View MoreFor a cheesy disaster flick, I have to give this 6/10. Bad acting, bad science, major goofs, predictable plot. Highly entertaining and humorous for a disaster flick, if you enjoy poking fun at major plot holes and mishaps.I won't give away any plot details, but this movie had me giggling and shaking my head through the whole thing...not to mention yelling at the screen over certain errors and waving goodbye at predictable moments.*Please note: My rating is based off of how well it lives up to a 'cheesy disaster flick' rating. The movie was really horrible overall, but my rating is based on how entertaining I found it, based on criteria I look for in a cheesy disaster flick.
