I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible

it is first virtue. to give a realistic/sensitive portrait of a profound drama. to present history as a personal story. bitter, tragic, dominated by duty, puzzle of sacrifices, exercise for define yourself in the middle of new born world. one of Turkish series impressive for the expected pieces. because it has the gift to propose the right picture of a transition who becomes real useful especially for the people from the East. a story like many others. the balance between family and duty. and the fundamental choice. nothing more. except, maybe, one of the admirable roles of Halit Ergenc.

Being a Turkish drama addict I can say this is the best one I have ever seen. The acting (by all the cast - not just Halit and Berguzar) is superb, the plot is riveting, the surprise plot twists are shocking, and the history behind this tale is extremely interesting. It has led many (including myself) to investigate Turkish history during WWI and the Mustafa Kemal Ataturk years. Halit Ergenc is absolute magic in this role. He elicits a reaction with one facial twitch that might take other actors 10-12 lines of dialog. He has to be the premier Turkish actor of this era. Pairing him with his real-life wife, Berguzar Korel, works like a charm in this series. They play off each other so, so well. I cannot recommend this drama high enough. It's wonderful.

I feel same chemistry when they played Sabiha Gokcen who first female pilot, foster child of Ataturk and Mustafa Kemal who founder of the Republic of Turkey. After the years they are playing as Cevdet & Hilal together again. Their chemistry never change. This is awesome. I think Halit want to tell I played Mustafa Kemal when Cevdet looks pictures of Mustafa Kemal. This is special, emotional for a actor. We wait to come Mustafa Kemal in series for long time. Why do Halit played Mustafa Kemal again? He already did it before. He completely change with plastic makeup. He can 2 role in series. I loved all female characters in series. Hollywood needs female character like them. Hollywood cant write female character. They wrote a female hero for a teenager girl. Hilal is incredible character. She is brave, poet, patriotic. She'll a woman of republic. All female characters are brave in series. Due to last wars for 20-25 years , Male population is very low. So we can see young, adult, old female characters in a family. They are like pices of a body and brave. Actors is awesome. Series has emotional story with characters of Turk in Greece, Greek in Ottoman Empire and Greek-Turk in New Turkey Republic. Series has nice details. They song same music. Leon songs with Greek lyrics. Hilal songs with Turkish lyrics. I loved details. They use same words, foods, dance of Greek-Turkish. Flashback is childhood memory in Greece. Life of Cevdet's family and people change with migration. Ali Kemal is the most similarity of Turk-Greek character. Series show figures of Republic as Hasan Tahsin, Halide Edip. I hope They show Mehmet Akif Ersoy, Mustafa Kemal. Also We want to see British, French, Italian in other fronts. We can only see Greek. If there isn't in story, Story will be missing. I hope Series is until 1926 and All actresses wear hat with hat revolution. Costumes are awesome.

i have not watched any other TV series with such beautiful scenes, reminds me of Akira Kurosawa's style... some scenes even remind me of the french movie Amelie... and although i do not like Turkish cinema, this TV series, together with the great actors just brings me back to the 1920s.Halit Ergenç and Bergüzar Korel are both great actors and their performance is on the top. The series brings you back to historic moments, shows you both sides of being a foreigner in your own land and being in your foreign land that becomes your new home... as a Turkish born in Bulgaria I know how it feels to not feel accepted neither in Turkey nor Bulgaria, so this TV series also provides a few lessons to learn about being human first.
