Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.

This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.

I've only watched 6 episodes and I simply cannot find words to describe such masterpiece of an anime. Limiting it to "anime" art form is actually unfairly reductive, since it conveys and encapsules so so much more than the well known cliches and stereotypes that the anime genre is most known for. Violet Evergarden is art in its purest form - message, symbolism, sound, colour, animation.I'm not an avid fan of anime - I don't like fantasy anime -, but I do enjoy a good story, and Violet Evergarden can surely provide that. The plot has been pretty much all covered in other reviews, and so I'll avoid the redundancy. I just felt this urge to write a review because, honestly, I think I've never seen so much love and care and attention and emotion and sensitiveness put into an animation medium. I can only describe Violet Evergarden as a scream for Beauty. A scream for us to never stop looking for it and never let it go, in this more and more ugly days we live in. A scream for us to allow ourselves to be inspired by it. Not the made-up faces kind of beauty. But the beauty of life and its purpose, the beauty of noble feelings, the beauty of being a greater someone, of having a greater heart. The beauty of love, actually.I would say Violet character represents every single one of us; we've all been through times of loss and pain and grief and horror; we've been broken, and we've all had moments in life in which we forgot what is love, what it is like to love and be loved, what it is like to be human. How does it feel when you can't feel nothing, like Violet?I also believe the need for dolls to express feelings works as a metaphor of today's increasingly self centered alienated robotic society, that seems to be forgetting what it is like to really be a human, to really feel something - the advent of social media only made that more evident. Some individuals don't even act like people anymore. They're just online avatars and profiles of lost flesh and blood beings. Just like Violet, we've all needed saving at one point. And the way I see it, masterpieces the likes of this Anime can save someone.Watch it if you still keep the ability to see Beauty and if you consider yourself someone with feelings.

Fantastic visual masterpiece, carrying a unique and enthralling story through interesting, real (though sometimes "unfeeling"), lovable characters. Everything the creators could have done right, they did: Violet Evergarden is deep, beautiful, and epic. A victory for the genre of anime similar to the success of Death Note. Despite a uncluttered, cozy pacing that fits with the theme, and some awkward English translations, this is a new bastion of excellence in aesthetic narrative.

No need for me to go into details as I'd only be regurgitating what all the other 10 star reviewers are saying. Visually stunning, great plot, excellent characters. I didn't want it to end! That right there is a testament to how good this anime is.

It's been a while since the last time I watched such a brilliant anime. Violet Evergarden is absolutely stunning. Its about a young girl that fought in battles and now works as a ghostwriter - "Auto Memories Dolls". She writes letters for people who can't express their feelings. The reason she works as a ghostwriter is because she wants to find out, what it means, when someone says "I love you"!
