It's not great by any means, but it's a pretty good movie that didn't leave me filled with regret for investing time in it.

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.

I gave this series a 7 out of 10 because the first season was great...and then, the second season happened. The second season made me question this show. Some of the characters in the first season turned out to be a different character in the second season. Rosalee was a scary one turned most courageous over night. Noah lost his courage. Stein became addicted to drugs and suicidal, sleeping with a man who hits her...(it just seemed so out of her character.) Cato turned villain, turned good guy, turned villain again...in two seasons? It had me questioning do I want this person to win? Wait, why was I rooting for this character again? And what was up with the countless story telling/ too much talking scenes? Are we watching a show or an interview? There were flash backs and scenes that had nothing to do with the storyline or moving the show forward. The ladies practiced shooting... to not use it. Cato transported Noah... just to talk to him...erm OK? Flash backs of Cato fighting...for what? Harriet Tubman did little to nothing when historically she's done much more. Rosalee gets bit by a snake and... Well, she had been bit. Things also felt rushed. John's death and Rosalee's pregnancy. Noah and Rosalee barely had sex. I like this show but Season 2 was a no for me.

I agree with a few people up here that yes the music doesn't go well to the time error that these events took place. As soon as i heard the music ex: the dream(I was like nooooo). Also anytime The History of slavery was ever told there are also a lot of facts left out that people don't know unless they read like once the babies were born they slave masters would stomp them to death and laugh about it,or when a male slave would disobey his master he would be roped to four horses and then they would make the horses run and split his body in half and make the wife and child watch. Just some facts that are truth and to some extent should be told in these documentaries if they want to keep to the truth as much as possible. But overall I look forward to watching more episodes and cant wait to see Harriet Tubman Do Her THING!!

I really liked this show. I really felt for the slaves. None of us can imagine what it was like to be a slave. While many of us might feel enslaved by our daily lives, we pretty much make the bed we lie in. We are what we are, but we can be anything we want to be. How terrible for a parent to see their child taken from them and for a child to be ripped from his/her family. How terrible for 5 year old's to be picking cotton. The slaves had not only strong backs but were of strong character and soul as well. As we slowly see changes in America, the old slaves know their efforts were not in vain. However, I would like to point out that many of the original slaves brought to America were sold to white men by there tribal black leaders. Greed is not color blind.

Although there are things about the show that are hard to watch, I recommend this show to all races, colors, and creeds. But because I am black, I implore other black people to take notice of this show. Yes, the black people of the show are slaves, but the characters and the writing make me proud of where we came from (in this country). They show the skills, craftsmanship, and innovation that black people have always possessed. They also show the compassion that some white people had toward the plight of slaves. What I like most about the show is how it makes me feel about black people. Looking at the news today, it's getting harder and harder to imagine that we were once a great people. Books can be and are written on the how, why, where, when, and what state black people are in today, but for an hour I get to imagine an uprising of "NO MORE!" and watch respectable black characters---and that is rarely seen on TV. Keep up the good work and congratulations on being picked up for next season!!
