Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.

It is interesting even when nothing much happens, which is for most of its 3-hour running time. Read full review

The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.

Since I loved the film, I thought I would absolutely love this series. I've never been so wrong in my life. The plot was dull. I just forced myself to watch the next episode in the idle hope it would improve. Then it didn't. The characters were boring and one-dimensional with an acting talent that can barely rival with that of a sea sponge. However, I do love the actual plot and I think that the story has the potential to become an awesome series in the hands of a great director So please, have another go at it with a decent budget/actors without distancing it too far from the actual story.Kind regards

My feelings about this TV series are so intense that I had to join IMDb so I could review it. If you loved the book and really loved the movie DON'T watch this series. Molly Daniels' Ellie is no heroine. Her portrayal of Ellie is terrible. Out of all the actors who play our beloved characters, her interpretation of Ellie is the worst. Sibylla Budd's character is also annoying. AND WHAT IS WITH JAMES STEWART'S ACCENT?? What kind of accent is meant to be, half the time he sounds German and the other half I have no idea. And what ethnicity is he meant to be??? Borderlining culturally insensitive ABC!!I persevered with this series to the 5th episode because I love the books and the movie. I really wanted to enjoy the whole series but it was way too painful. After 15 minutes of episode 5 I turned it off....

Warning may contain some spoilers:If I hadn't read the books I would probably be loving this series. It is well made and I love Deborah Mailman. However I did read the books and feel disappointed at the changes. Following the parents really goes against the point of the book which is showing what young people can do. John Marsden wrote the books to show the potential of young people. Small changes are fine but they have changed a lot and are into events of book two and haven't blown up the bridge which is a major plot development! I do like the music and film style however. I understand budget could be an issue. I will keep watching however as I loved the books.

I have read the books and seen the movie and absolutely loved them. When I heard that the series was coming out I was quite excited, I thought the void left by the lack of a sequel to the movie could finally be filled. Now after watching the first episode I'm beginning to think that that void will never be filled. I have found it quite utterly disappointing. Just seemed like the scenes of jubilation/slow motion happy happy joy joy were well overdone. Well i guess after hyping it up in my head it was always possible that it might not live up to my exceptions but i didn't think it was possible it would be this bad.Anyway I will hang in there for the next few episodes *fingers crossed* Please get better.
