a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.

An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

This new series of the Thundercats is epic, fast paced and seems as though it will be following the storyline of Lion-O's journey to find the Book Of Omens. Its characters are sure to undergo crisis and change, and if there isn't an awkward love triangle between Lion-O, Tigra and Cheetara then I will be surprised. All of the familiar elements have been rewoven into this and will allow old fans to spot all of the nods to the original cartoon. It feels like a reworking of Lord of the Rings, with Lion-O as Frodo, gathering his team around him as heads off on his mission to save Thundera. The best part of all is that this is not a remake. It really is a reboot. Which will hopefully allow me to keep the classic rendition of the Thundercats in my heart just as they are, and still enjoy the action-packed adventures of the modern retelling. I am looking forward to seeing more. Mind you... all of this came from a Thundercats fan and you need to be warned. We can be a strange lot:

It is not a real remake because story was modified. The art direction added a anime feel to the old cartoon. The ~23 minutes story are pretty short sometimes and lacks a feeling of continuity. I'll throw it an 8, because the original Japanese voices are better, and the American version used few voice actors, which in my opinion offends the greatness the cartoon deserves. Some episodes use the same voice actor for 3 voices (see Trivia above). However, the action, climaxes and richness of details, and the quality of animation raises the bar for what many cartoons lack, reaching a Dragon Ball Z-like level, without the unnecessary delay in chapters. Scale explanation: Scales are flawed, but if DBZ/Kai was considered 9, Saint Seya is 8,5, the new Thundercats deserves an 8, while the old one deserves an 7,5. You might ask "Who is 9~10"? 9: "Record of Lodoss War", Batman Animated Series. 9,5: The Lion King, Ice Age. 10: The well-know japan classic "Akira" and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (series).

To be honest, I did not like the series, at all. the good thing about the original series, was, to my point of view, how different it looked from other series. Hair, costumes, voices, they were independent of each other, you did not see the same clothing on Thundercats that what you saw on galaxy rangers or dungeons and dragons or voltron. For example, in the new series, all of the clothing used by the characters, is something that could be used today, same for the hair and verbal expressions. They are supposed to be different, they come from another planet!! The original series may have been cheesy, but I think the teachings they gave to us kids back then, were valuable ones, that in today's world, you just don't see anymore. They barely had violence, and they sure didn't have blood or something that could cause little kids to freak out.I much rather watch re-runs of the original series.

I remember seeing the original series whilst young and young enough to have a memory of everyone having the thundercats bag, the lunch boxes, the toy swords and if it was more fun to watch then He-Man. Thundercats was big and whilst not new in regards to formula it was a different take on the series given it barely included any humans (with exception to Mumm-Ra who i think was human) with striking character designs and a cool sword chant Thundercats was a shining example of a cartoon made marketable. Looking at Thundercats (185) via youtube and DVD's you see how dated it has become, the writing unbearable sometimes but still the masculine design of Lion-O, Mumm-Ra and the ancient spirits of evil servant 'Pyron' Both have good designs that could be tuned into any show today.Nonetheless the idea to make a remake was based on the idea that at the core there was a lot the original show could have offered still and this is what the remake does. It goes further much further into detail.Thundera is now a Kingdom but the cats have lost the moral good to become more muddled, there is genuine rivalry, even dislike between lion-O and Tygra, Lion-O's father prides on posture and is essentially all pride. Other characters have been polished up quite well including the Lizards who are now a race with a strong background. And cheetah, er wow, she's not bad looking (I'm I confessing to furry here?!)The voice acting is strong as is the flow of animation. The show reinvents itself whilst being clever with its source material, the writing is very good also. This series has a great start and will surely have a great run as well. I can see kids who were my age when I first saw the original series be taken in by this as well. All together now. THUNDERCATS! HO!
