The film may be flawed, but its message is not.

I'm sorry but I just can't get into this show. After seeing all the positive reviews about it, I decided to give it a try. I barely got through an episode! I know it sounds kind of silly but I just can't get past the character designs and the overall look of the show. To me everything and everyone just look silly, childish and so cartoony. I just can't take it seriously. I know it probably has good writing and voice actors and all that, but to me it just looks too childish. Also, why is Spider-Man so skinny. He's seriously the same size as Gwen and MJ! And Venom has tiny legs and Doctor Octopus just looks weird. And what's up with the Green Goblin's chin? I grew up on the 90s Spider-Man: TAS and to me it just doesn't get any better than that. I know the animation isn't great compared to modern stuff, but I can easily look past that due to the great writing, voice acting and character designs. Anyway, I gave it a shot, but the Spectacular Spider-Man just isn't for me.

Much like Batman TAS, both JLs, and Teen Titans this series was one of the best shows I've seen; animated or not. Not only that, but to my knowledge it's the best Spiderman series ever put on TV because of how well made it is and what I think of Spiderman. Peter is a brainiac, but he doesn't flaunt it, when it comes to situations like romance and holding up to his duties as Peter Parker he reacts to it like some teenagers in his place would while as Spidey he uses his quick wit to get the foes off guard and is also serious about the situation at hand and it's not forcefully funny like some writers would make. The side characters have their own personality and some have character archs in the show that really shows itself in the 2nd season; they're memorable and I ended up liking most of them. The animation is something newcomers would have to get used to but when you do you'll like it and it fits into the shows dynamic, also I love how Peter actually LOOKS like a teenage nerd would instead of the beefy 90s Peter. The sound is smooth and plays well in the background of scenes and really helps the fights flow well, especially in a certain ep in season 2. It array of villains were cool too from Electro to Vulture so it's good to have that variety in the show as well and heck, even a few of the villains have an arc to them. All in all this is a show I really think everyone should watch because it's exactly what I think a Spiderman series should be, memorable, able to hold up over time, and damn is it rewatchable; it's even my first torrented series. Even though this fell into the 2 Season Hell Pit that many good Superhero shows end up at (except for TT, but we see where they went) I really hope it returns with a season 3 to tie up some ends left loose in the show.

My goodness. Talk about a perfect show. This series completely blew me away, and it's a real shame that it is has been cancelled on account of the infamous Ultimate Spider-man cartoon. The Spectacular Spider-man was had absolutely no dull moments and I feel it really captured what it would have been like for a high school teenager to get super powers. Hilariously, Peter Parker falls in love with any girl that he looks at for too long... just as any teenage boy would. I repeat, it is such a shame (and I cannot stress this enough!) that this show was cancelled. Alas, cruel fate, all good things must come to an end. And though I am disappointed that this masterpiece had a short 2-season run, I am glad to have experienced it. I have bought both seasons on iTunes and will continue to watch and share such great quality entertainment. And as I sip my drink, once again with that whimsical feeling that the show will one day return, I shed a tear for what was lost and what will never be.

Everyone's favorite friendly neighborhood wall-crawler enters a whole new level of awesome with this new series, fun as the other shows were. Shining a new light on the hero's life, The Spectacular Spider-Man digs deep into the comic book world while presenting new twists to the classic characters of Peter Parker's life like Gwen Stacy, Aunt May, Eddy Brock, Doctor Connors/Lizard, and all of the classic super villains.Plot: It's been a few months since the genetically-altered spider bit socially-awkward nerd Peter Parker and now school is now back in session. As he struggles with maintaining both his friendships and life, Spidey confronts one of the most popular rogue galleries in history, some villains of which are created to squash the web-head. It's all in a day's work for the spectacular Spider-Man! First off, the action scenes are some of the best I've seen in any super hero series, the combatants going all over the place, smashing a few things, and beating the living crap out of each other. The voice cast is just phenomenal; Josh Keaton nailing the character of Spidey, Steve Blum delivering the insanity of the Green Goblin, Clancy Brown bringing the nobility of Capt. George Stacy and brutality of Rhino, etc. Music is also a real treat due to it's catchy tone and fast pace, though the theme song initially gave me slightly mixed feelings (not anymore). Despite the rather simplistic artwork, the design of the characters are great, especially Doctor Octopus, Vulture, and Lizard.Character development is definitely one of the stronger points of this series. Not only is it Peter's journey through life, but unexpected characters like Liz Allen and Flash Thompson get their own little back stories and journey's of their own. Surprisingly, comedy is done very well as there were moments that actually made me laugh, some of which coming from jolly old J. Jonah Jameson. Fans who read the comics will also notice a lot of recognizable moments and dialog taken right out of the classic panels of the old comics. While there are a couple things to nitpick around here, The Spectacular Spider-Man will be more than satisfying to watch. It's a shame a season 3 will never come thanks to freaking Disney and its fairly disappointing "Ultimate Spider-Man" series. Overall, I give this show an eight for entertainment value and an extra point for being extremely faithful to the comics. In the words of Stan Lee, "EXCELSIOR!"
