Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.

They act like the next step studio is a big deal but when they get to regionals they say they have never made it to semifinals in the past. The script just gets worse as it goes on. There is no legacy, no reason why the students were acting the way they were in the beginning. It is interesting and has a unique style that can capture an audience. You realise early on that the actors are better at dancing than they are at acting, however for first timers they do pretty well for teen drama. The killer for me is that the studio owner and staff display behaviour that is off the charts dramatic, strange and not at all qualities of leaders of young teens. As a result any time where there should be consequences, the opportunities for students to grow personally, etc, they have been robbed from this show. The reality is that the students will be adults soon enough and so will some of the viewers. Where is the personal growth and students sticking up for themselves when they are bullied? The students do not even feel comfortable going to the adults to confide in them. Instead they scheme behind close doors, do not know how to express feelings to one another and freeze whenever confronted. What a team and good environment for your kids. Not. There is no accountability for the dance captains and it seems like a bizarre free for all, instead of a prestige dance studio. I guess they should consider if they are more like the street crew Seeds after all.

In the beginning, (I'd barely include season 2), the show is quite interesting. Characters had chemistry, realistic relationships, interesting developments, varying appeal, and plotline was realistic and believable, and most impressively, the whole show helped me to learn to gain a respectful new perspective for the field of dance and dancers. However, as the show and seasons goes on, everything goes downhill. Things become unreasonably unrealistic. Certain characters begin abnormally developing different personalities; morals and beliefs individual characters have are suddenly blown out of proportion, or morphed insensibly. It disappointed me to drop the series after fourth season.

My chief complaint is what the subject matter is teaching children, or the age bracket this is supposed to attract. Blackmail, lying, cheating, arguments, sneaky underhanded actions are rewarded. Bullying and mean girls are cool and the adults are oblivious! Love is falling for one person, and 5 minutes later you are in love with another. What young man is going to have a dance off with the prize for the winner being the a fore boys girlfriend. Seriously, are girls tokens or a prize that can be won? That is demeaning and derogatory. Where are the adults when all of this bickering and back biting is going on, to include their parents? That being sneaky and underhanded gets you ahead. Who is choreographing the routines? The adults in this are portrayed as sitting in their office and once in a blue moon coming out to see what is going on. Now you have a girl who is the captain of Elite Studio pretending to be a member of Next Step studio. Sneaking to another studio to record the competitions routines. The kids having injuries but not consulting the adults. Kids in life circumstances making horrible decisions and not seeking advice from anyone who may have a clue. Thankfully my children and grand children have always felt comfortable enough to talk to me about anything and everything. I could go on with my complaints but I think you get what I am trying to say. Improve the acting, dialog, and the subject matter of the show. Kids are not stupid but impressionable. The advice you are giving in many situations is bad advice. Please, reconsider what you are showing our youngsters, you are doing a disservice to them.

I loved this show from the start. First of all, it is Canadian and as we all know, there are hardly any Candian shows, let alone ones that are actually good. This show caught my attention from the start and made me wish I had never stopped dancing at the age of 6. All the dances that they do are amazing, unique and so good. I loved the drama and the the characters in this show, it makes it so interesting. Although the acting could use a bit of work, the actors are truly amazing at dancing. The only thing I'm sad about is the low rating on IMDb. This show is on Family Channel, meaning it is aimed for kids pre-teen to young teen. So if your 26 and don't like it, it was not aimed for you to watch. The rating on this show should be at least an 8, so I'm hoping my vote will bring it up.
