it is the rare 'crazy' movie that actually has something to say.

Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.

Just watched all 50 episodes on Netflix and I fast forwarded through a lot of the cheesy soap opera drama. I wasn't interested so much that the series was or wasn't perfectly factual and it matched Bruce Lees life exactly. I liked some of the twists and different story lines. The fight scenes were excellent, very entertaining. But I thought with Shannon Lee as Executive producer, most of the cheesy hand and finger gestures scene in kung Fu movies from 40 years ago would have been smoothed out including the facial expressions and dialogue. But the cinematography, sets, etc. were very nice and enjoyable to watch. Some of the actors obviously needed some lessons, but I really like the Uncle Shao character, and some of the Karate masters. The actor who played Bruce lee did a very good job, he didn't over do Bruce's mannerisms. Thank you for a very nice series.

This series is such a mess in more ways than one. LMFAO!Music - Laughable! OMG! It's SO bad I couldn't stop cracking up at how cheesy it was. The intro music is super lame and there are times when the soundtrack sounds like the theme song to Night Court. The worst of all is a song they use in episode 14 that has a chorus that goes " Bruce Lee.. Bruce Lee.. Bruce Lee..". Seriously, you will die laughing. I've never heard a worse soundtrack ever. Who the hell signed off on this? LOL!Time Period - they obviously took zero consideration into what year it was. Costa Pizza boxes, Justin Timberlake t-shirt.. it's hilarious. Oh and not to sound racist but I'm pretty sure there weren't any black female police officers in 1959. Inaccuracy - I could write a list here of all the horribly inaccuracies of this film but it would take too long. There's one reviewer in the first 10 reviews who nails them all. Go read that. However, one truly ridiculous inaccuracy that has nothing to do with Bruce's story is the fact that the black female police officers are wearing patches on their uniforms that says "Police Academy". LOL! A murder investigation performed by cadets? It's as if the wardrobe director went to Goodwill and got a couple of used shirts. Hilarious! Also, did anyone notice how when they arrested him they never put him in handcuffs? You're arresting a guy as a murder suspect with no cuffs? WTF? LOL!At times the film speaks like a Chinese propaganda film. It's whole purpose is prove the Chinese people are superior to Japanese people. I'm fully convinced that Asians are the most racist people on earth. Give it a rest already. The only thing that's good about this film is the lead actor. He looks a lot like Bruce and does a good job portraying him. The guy who plays Master IP is pretty cool too, although he really didn't look like that. he was bald and clean shaven. But I guess making him look like the dude from KiIl Bill is just sexier. Again.. gotta love the comedic value. Sorry but "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story" was way better. This comedic joke, "The legend of Bruce Lee" took 50 dragged-out episodes to tell the same story, an inaccurately at that. Don't waste your time. Final note: Shannon Lee... are you serious? You actually put your name on this garbage? Don't you think your dad would be a little upset? Kind of disrespectful to his legend.. the real one.

It's not as inspiring and action packed as Dragon the Bruce Lee Story, but Danny Chan is a spitting resemblance of Bruce Lee, including his mannerisms and how he fights is pretty close to being spot on. The start of each episode was annoying with the intro music. It felt like a cheap karaoke soundtrack and some karaoke singer was just singing along to it. Quite off putting. Also the movie did not cover the sub story of each sibling, his mum and dad (it would have helped with the influences they would have had on Bruce growing up). There were far too much focus on his high school sweetheart. Their love story was very bland and uninteresting (I felt she was just as bland and uninteresting too). The interaction between his classmates were quite poor. The character development between his classmates and the teachers with Bruce did not transition well. The depiction of the timeline when it was shot seemed inaccurate. He was brought up during the 60s and 70s, but detail like what the boxers wore at his school (they were wearing modern baggy basketball shorts and singlet) were not a reflection of this era. Generally I'm not sure if the series was accurate or made up. And shouldn't Bruce Lee and his family and the characters in Hong Kong spoke Cantonese not Mandarin? Also with the Netflix version why couldn't the white people both in Hong Kong and USA speak English! The English parts looked dubbed over. It looked unnatural that the African Americans, the English and the Americans spoke Mandarin and not English! It would have been better if Bruce having arrived in the US for the first time would attempt to speak English but only to be ridiculed and tricked my westerners. This would definitely highlight the challenges he had with racism and adapting to a new culture. His effort to integrate especially with understanding and speaking English, would have been more interesting, and we would have felt closer to the Bruce's character and felt more sympathetic to the challenges he faced. It is a poor follow up to the Bruce Lee story. Uninspiring, long, uninformative and almost unentertaining.Having been a Bruce Lee fan since I was a teenager, I feel disappointed at this attempt on portraying his life. I hope there is a better spin off for his story in the future (the same way Wong Fei Hung and Ip Man had been tremendous). It is a small budget series, but that shouldn't be an excuse for a poorly made series.I would not recommend at all for any Lee fans, martial art fans or anybody else for that matter.

I've watched 14 episodes now and I can't stop watching. I had to write this review because I really love this series till now and I haven't seen a review yet with the thoughts that I have. I have been a Bruce Lee fan only since my twenties. When I was a kid, I did not like Bruce Lee because people ridiculed him in front of me, since I'm an overseas Chinese, even though I practiced Wu Shu in my teens. But back then I didn't really know him. I watched his movies for the first time only in my twenties, "Way of the Dragon" being my favourite. Since then, I am a huge fan. I've collected and watched numerous of his documentaries read several of his books, and even took some Wing Chun lessons for a while. I've seen several "Bruceploitations" and lately Bruce Lee seems to be getting more attention with movie releases like the Yip Man trilogy, Bruce Lee my brother and this TV series. This t.v. series is not like a Hollywood movie or a Hong Kong Bruce Lee movie, rather it has much more a "common" feel. At times it even seems you're watching a home video! But to me, this feels much better, because everything seems to be more "realistic" than a Hollywood movie where everything seems "perfect" (e.g. the lighting etc). This imperfectness makes it feel like you're really "there" reliving Bruce's life. The storyline is good although many things are not factual, the actors are good and during some scenes I even got emotional. Also, watching Bruce's early life and how he deals with things, really inspires me. The fact that it is a 50 episode TV series is even better as you really get to "spend time with Bruce" for very long times.I'm watching the Chinese version with Chinese simplified subtitles and Mandarin spoken language. I've tried to find the Cantonese or English dubbed versions but couldn't find it. Since I'm not a native Mandarin I am pausing it almost every few seconds to read the subtitles to understand everything. But this way I can also learn Mandarin! I've seen several reviews on the internet reviewing the shortened version of this series to 3 hours and they are really bad. I think that is justified since I think it would be more like a trailer of the series. If you're a fan of Bruce, I highly recommend this series.
