... View MoreI enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
... View MoreThe movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
... View MoreI was so glad to see The Gregory Hines Show on CBS for several reasons. One principle reason was watching a handsome, intelligent but witty widowed father raising his equally handsome and witty young son. I also loved the interaction between the 3-generations of family-grandfather/father/son of which Ben's brother was added to enhance the humor and story lines. Another principle reason I enjoyed the show so much was seeing the genuine love from the male standpoint in an African American family setting. Ben and his son Matty often spoke of the deceased wife/mother in many tender ways and their father/son relationship was heart-warming. Even the tough-love of Ben and Carl's father was laced with the unspoken love and concern for his now grown-up sons. I also liked how in the closing episode Gregory's outstanding dancing was featured in a surreal-dream type way. I sincerely hope that CBS or its syndication affiliate will release this show on DVD-I will definitely add this show to my collection.
... View MoreDoes anyone know of these episodes being released on DVD? I've always thought Gregory was extremely talented, but outside of the dance community, never received the recognition he should have. Anything I've ever heard or read, made me appreciate his humanity as well as his talent. I still miss him very much and try to obtain as many different CD's, DVD's and VHS tapes as I can. I am so grateful that I had the chance to see him in person in a small venue. Peg Leg Bates was in the audience, and Gregory had him stand up to be recognized! There were many young tappers there dancing with him on the stage. What an opportunity! One of the teachers here at the high school where I work, danced with Gregory. How I envy her!
... View MoreThis was one of the best television shows on the air!! How nice and beautiful it was to see a TV show that showed three generations of Black males being supportive of and loving one another. Also, here was a show that was not afraid to show those males being affectionate with one another. Gregory Hines was incredibly charming and funny and Brandon Hammond was equally fine. I sincerely hope this show comes to DVD soon. It is well worth revisiting again and again. It is too bad that CBS only saw fit to give us one season of this beautifully done show, but I will be most forgiving if I can at least buy it on DVD (hint, hint!)!!!!
... View MoreThe Gregory Hines show was a fantastic family comedy. The automatic click between the actors was reminiscent of the way the Cosby Show actors clicked right off the bat.Gregory Hines played a single father raising a bright son, with his brother and father "helping" along. His character's business as a book publisher added a lot of comedic interaction as well. All of the sub-characters were a perfect choice, from the restaurant owner to his business partner. It was a sitcom that crossed the racial lines. If it had been given a chance, it probably would have had a long run. This had to be one of the best Sitcoms of all time. Its so sad that an executive had to make sure it didn't work out. I watched it every week, sometimes having to scan the TV guide, trying to find out what night they had it on "this week".I know there was only one season of episodes, but I wish they would release them on DVD - I would buy them!
