What a beautiful movie!

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

9 episodes of interesting (although sometimes slow) drama - good acting, brilliant visuals, plot development leading to.... the most lazy incomprehensible ending I've seen on any series. Did the writers go on strike for the last episode and leave the catering staff to write it? Would probably have been better if they had. Watch it if you love the atmosphere - avoid it like the plague if you expect it to make sense.

Whoever directed and wrote this needs to take a long hard look at their work. The piece is overacted, contains stilted dialogue, music that patronises the viewer and shoddy camera work... this magical combination make this plaguristic Frankenstein piece uncomfortable viewing. It's such a shame as the cast have a good pedigree and the original books are more than workable into a decent script.

This first episode has the same grim humorlessness that turned me off of True Detective. It's very focused on atmosphere but not so focused on character, at least to start. Even Teddy Roosevelt just comes across as part of a generic group of serious men being serious about a serious thing.To be fair, I'm also not big on serial killer stuff. I almost *never* like series and movies about serial killers. I know some people find them fascinating, but for me to be interested I need Silence-of-the-Lambs quality level. And this is nowhere near that.

Kept waiting for this to become sonething interesting, which it never did. Remarkable for the lack of cosmic spark between any of the three main characters despite many forced attemots at infusing dramatic, romantic or suspenseful tension. Everyone seems to be trying so terribly hard to make this compelling, but in the end this seems like a two hour made for tv movie stretched into something it isnt.
