The story takes place on Little Tall Island...off the coast of Maine to no surprise to King fans. A stranger named Andre Linoge (Colm Feore) comes to the island needing a dentist, but instead kills old Martha Clarendon (Rita Tuckett) and watches her TV as two fronts come together as they are in for a "storm of the century." The stranger ends up in Constable Mike Anderson's (Tim Daly) jail...but strange things begin to happen and the stranger knows all of the island's dirty little secrets and is willing to share them with the whole town. He wants something to leave....This is rather a long film. As far as Stephen King and religious themes, I liked "1408" better. King did work a cameo as a lawyer on a flyer as he sometimes does. The phrase, "Give me what I want and I will go away" was eerily repeated, something King copied from himself (The Shining). Also King's other novel/character "Dolores Claiborne" is mentioned in this film, which took place in the same location. The film is actually a short story made long by King to develop character...everyone's character. As far as entertainment about a film with a stranger, the plebeian in me likes "Traveler" with the fat Val Kilmer better.

If this had only been 2 hours it could have been enjoyable. At over four hours, it's almost unbearable.I don't understand how Stephen King is so popular, his movies always suck. This has a very slow moving story and it's hard to stay interested. What kept me interested was the promise of a storm coming and it never comes.Well it does but it has no bearing on the story.Early into the story all communication to the mainland is cut off but the roads are always clear enough to drive on.No one has a problem driving anywhere. But it's not a terrible movie. It's just way too long and it's not about a storm.Give it a shot if you have the time.

If you like different style mystery and suspense movies; this movie could be the best one for you! You'll not be able to divine what "Andre Linoge" want from the townsfolk. In my opinion this is the best book-movie adaptation I have ever seen. Storm of the Century has an extraordinary screenplay. This is not a regular novel. Actually the origin of the book which was written by Stephen King was a scenario. Colm Feore acts amazing as "Andre Linoge". Nobody knows who is this guy and why is he here? Just a few suspense freak knows that movie; and that makes the movie more valuable. Just watch it there is no word to explain it.

Stephen King is a great writer, but even die hard fans of his work will agree that his films are hit or miss. Storm of The Century was one of his better novels, but was made for the big screen, not some PG rated mini-series. As a small island off the coast of Maine is hit with the most devastating storm in it's history, a stranger shows up and kill a beloved fixture on the island. The strange is quickly apprehended, but continues to wreak havoc, calming that he will go away if the towns people give him what he wants. I get that this was made for TV, but the fact is that if any of King's works deserved to be a regular R rated big screen film, it was this one. Almost everything worth while is cut out or toned down. Not to mention that in order to expand the story, to cover nearly 4 and a half hours worth of time, they had to put in a lot of things that wouldn't normally make it into a screenplay. There is so much unnecessary garbage in this thing that it completely destroys the story. Tim Daly was cast in the lead and all I can say is really? Honestly, Don Knotts made a more convincing cop than he did. The one bright spot in the film was Colm Feore, playing Andre Linoge, the mysterious stranger. He really was terrific and creepy at all the right moments. Aside from Feore, Storm of The Century wreaks of television and lacks all the suspense and horror of the original story. This is a fantastic read, but as a movie, Storm of The Century really doesn't cut it. My only hope is when they eventually remake it, they do it in the way King intended it to be.
