I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.

Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

In the city of Dakota, a teenage boy with electricity based powers, with the help of his inventive friend, fights crime as a superhero. Static Shock wasn't a bad animated show to be honest but next to other DC Shows like Batman: The Animated Series, Superman, Teen Titans and Justice League it's easily the least exciting of the five. It's villains are cheesy, it's animation for at least the first 2 Seasons is kinda meh and that Opening Song from Seasons 1 and 2 was so annoying but on the good side of things there were some great crossovers with him and Batman, JL and Man of Steel that were terrific especially the Batman Beyond one so overall? Not a bad show just not as good as other DC shows of the 90's and 00's but it's better than Teen Titans GO at least. (6/10)

Next to justice League and Young Justice, this is one of few great DC animated shows that have been made in the last 15 years. I won't go into detail about how well the writing in this show is whether I'm talking about the theme of an episode, or the actual dialogue, but man oh man this is awesome. I remember watching this show when I was younger (only 16 now) but this was a cartoon that I only got to "sometimes" watch. The feeling I got when it aired was something I haven't felt from a show in a while. This show basically covers all things such as racism, finding yourself, and even simpler things as accomplishing a goal. Only of shows were made like this now a days... sadly there are no DC animated shows anymore and it breaks my heart. PROPS TO STATIC SHOCK.

"Static Shock" is not a BAD show... it's just got a few wrinkles that could be ironed out. Probably it's biggest problem it's this whole "blaxploitation" thing it's got going on. Okay, he's African-American, that's just peachy-keen, but it doesn't really make him any different from any other superhero, so there's no need to focus on it as such an important point of who and what he is. It's a problem that tends to plague African-American comic book characters, as writers always seem to think that they should be made down-home, hip-with-the-people style characters. Well, it's all just rather "blah." And I just find it rather quirky that almost all of the "Bang Babies" (the mutants created in an explosion during the series premiere) are African-American too, don't you? Although when the show STOPS being blaxploitation, it's highly watchable - the second season premiere comes to mind, which involves a crossover with Batman (and features the character designs and voice actors from Batman's own series). The animation is quite decent, but the first season would have benefited GREATLY from the animators learning the meaning of the word "SHADOW." Everything was a very bland, single flood-filled colour. The second season has improved this, with real light and shading beind used (same goes for "The Zeta Project").Anyhoo... it ain't bad. But it ain't great either.

Static Shock is an excellent show, for modern Saturday Morning fare. It is based on Static, one of Milestone Comics' flagship titles, and a very good comic book. The title character, an African-American teenage superhero with electromagnetic powers is portrayed as a real kid, both in and out of costume, and not as a walking stereotype of either black youth, or superhero. All the voices are done quite well, also. It is refreshing to see different faces on television than what we're "used to". Kids WB has a winner with this one. If they're smart, they'll keep it around.
