This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.

"Gone with the Wind" is probably the most glamorous movie of the most glorious cinematographic era (late 1930ies, early 1940ies). The film is made with the greatest stars of the period, full of passion, sweet melancholy, emotional strength and beauty. It is one of those masterpieces that appear every 20-30 years and are left to be rediscovered by each following generation.Back to this pathetic flick. A lot of viewers say "Scarlett" is good and it shouldn't be compared to "Gone with the Wind". Well, it just so happens that this lame excuse for TV series is the sequel to "Gone with the Wind". Remember how you watched "Jaws" and loved it, but then "Jaws 4: The Revenge" made a joke out of Spielberg's initial effort? Or how "Sabrina" with Humphrey Bogart and Audrey Hepburn received a very unfortunate remake in 1995? That's not nearly as bad as this one.If you love books, you'd know that the novel "Scarlett" was an exquisite follow-up to "Gone with the Wind", although written by a different author. Yet the substance of the characters - traits, attitude, demeanor - were perfectly preserved in the second book. Reading them one after the other, you wouldn't even know the author has changed, unless you look up the names. With other words, if you haven't read the books and watch TV indiscriminately, you might like "Scarlett". Naturally the script is derived from a magnificent book. If you prefer really good movies -- don't mix old wine with cheap beer.

This is about as good as gone with the wind was.I love this movie I could watch it over and over again.Scarlett always gets what she wants no matter what the cost. She tries real hard to forget Rhett but she just can't do it. She loves him so much. This is a story of real true love.It started in gone with the wind and ended up in this movie. The only real way to end this movie for real true love. Was to have Scarlett and Rhett back together at the end.And thats the way it ended with them back together with their daughter. What more could you ask for. There's not a better ending to this great love story than this. What else can i say about this great movie.

"Scarlett" is better than I expected. Better, but still NO good. At least not, if you compare it to "Gone With The Wind". Yet, in it's own right, it is tolerable. My first reaction was : "I hate this" and/or "I'm laughing my head off." As I struggled to watch the first hour, I dwelled upon the horridness of the mini-series, which was to me the most horrible, ridiculous sacrilege I could ever imagine. But the next day as I continued to watch the series, I changed my attitude. Even though I still consider some scenes more or less ridiculous (such as Rhett appearing at the costume ball, dressed as Blackbeard...) I found "Scarlett" to be quite entertaining. It is a bit too long, and a bit too melodramatic/ soap-opera -like for my taste, it was OK. The acting is moderately good, Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable are a tough act to follow, and Joanne Whalley- Kilmer and Timothy Dalton don't even come close. But it's fair to say, they have their moments. My favorite moments in Scarlett include for example the scene where Scarlett looks at herself in the mirror and refuses to believe it really is herself she is seeing there. That is IMHO, one of J. W-K's finest moments. The only problem with her is, I don't feel she looks the part. Her eyes are too big, and I don't find her charming at all. Her character however, is rather suitable. Not quite, but close enough. All in all, she makes a good Alexandra Ripleys Scarlett, but even with the character developing and all, she is definitely NOT Margaret Mitchells Scarlett. Not even close. Same goes for Rhett. Timothy Dalton might be Good, but not as good as he should be. Anyway I have to say, that the costumes and settings are absolutely splendid! Everything has been done with the greatest care and attention, and that's exactly what I love.In the end, "Scarlett" really isn't all that bad, but it did take A LOT of time for me to get use to it. So if you're looking for GWTW 2, you will be brutally disappointed. But if all you want is entertainment, LENGTHY, NOT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY and spiced with plenty of melodrama, "Scarlett" is just the thing for you! Yes, 5/10 is the highest score I can possibly give.

A letter to the guys. I tried guys, I really tried! I tried so hard not to watch this movie. I would leave the room when it was on or jump on the computer when the wife watched it. This is her second favorite movie, the Godfather being first (which I love).I ended up catching little bits of this movie and finally after maybe a year I was actually sitting down watching it with her. I can't believe I am saying this, but I loved this movie. Dalton plays a great Rhett and has his cockiness down pat. Whalley plays a delightful Scarlett. Full of fire and brimstone and NOTHING is going to stop her.My favorite scene is when she is overseas in (Ireland?) and the government is going to tear down a peasant's house because they are behind in the rent. Scarlett gets all mad at this and pays the entire debt, thus making a huge name for herself around this small town. All I'm saying guys is you might want to try this movie... especially if you are a fan of Gone with the Wind. It does take a little bit to get used to the new actors, but I think you will find them refreshing.
