It is not deep, but it is fun to watch. It does have a bit more of an edge to it than other similar films.

The film may be flawed, but its message is not.

Everything that can be said about this program is more than likely already lurking among these pages. However, having just watched the first episode, I was once more struck by a recurring problem with Canadian/American productions that feature characters that have English accents. Why oh why can't they be bothered to employ mother tongue British script editors to check the script before recording them? The fact that Amanda Tapping's character has an English accent is at once compelling and of course she was born in England which is also quite interesting. Being raised in Canada however she has, reasonably enough, a Canadian accent and so speaking with an English accent must have been a little odd for her - British viewers will certainly be able to hear that oddness every now and then. Not to detract from her very obvious talent of course, she is very good and totally steals every scene. She's certainly the only reason why I might consider watching episode 2! The telling problem however lies, as ever, with the script. In this first episode there were three glaring errors: Magnus remarks to Zimmerman, "I could use your help". We would never say that, instead we would say, "I could do with your help".Magnus proposes to Zimmerman, "...having a hard time accepting it...". We would never employ such a 100% American expression. Instead we would say, "...having difficulty in accepting that...".The character Druitt, also supposedly English, remarks "...put her someplace more dangerous..." Not in a million years would we use the inexistent word someplace. The word, on this side of the Atlantic, is "somewhere".So come on American producers, sort yourselves out. If you can't find anyone else give me a call I would be more than happy to proof read your English character scripts for you. Anything to help avoid these horrendous gaffes that you keep making.Rant over....

This is an extremely frustrating series, because so much more could have been done with it. Granted, the main plot is original, the special effects phenomenal, the characters interesting, the makeup believable, etc. And yet... The plot holes, oh the plot holes. Not many people I know have watched more than one or two seasons, but I assure you it gets better with time. Season 3 is by far the best written of all. In the end, you get attached to the characters, despite the mythological and historical discrepancies, especially with an actress as formidable as Amanda Tapping. But now that they've announced there won't be a Season 5, many of our questions will forever remain unanswered...frustrating, I tell you.

I'm finding this show to be kind of dull. I'm currently watching season 2 and it's not getting any better. It seems the creators can't decide who they want their audience to be. One episode it's all real guns - the next it's stupid ray guns. Vampires one minute and X-men the next. They even put a stupid superhero episode in amongst it. Ha! Now they got some Terminator/zombie hybrid thing going. They need to toss out most of the cast, The two lead actors are awful. Keep the young chick, the bald guy and ditch the rest. And for goodness sake can you focus on some consistent story arc? It's as random as ideas on a dart board, and someone who can't play the game is shooting for next weeks episode plot. Everything about this show is a little off. A waste of a good concept that leans toward playing it safe and taking no risks in an effort to try and appeal to everyone possible.

If I compare this newer show to the show Angel that ran for umpteen numbers of seasons, it looks like a watered down version of the prior, and better show. I think many people are into the horror genre, and would like a chance to do a show in that there genre. Welcome to Sanctuary. Someones shot at the big time of TV horror shows. That sounds like an oxymoron somehow. The big time of horror TV shows?...there is no such thing...well, maybe there is ...sort of. I thought the few episodes of this show that I saw were completely forgettable. Why?...I asked myself, clutching a bag of chips in my sweaty hands...maybe it was the cardboard cutout characters, or maybe it was the story line that drifted between a commercial for snack food and a commercial for condoms. Nothing really grabbed me about it. It was like watching production rushes for a horror film. Dark cloister her and a shot of a woman's face there, all jumbling up to make brain cake. Sigh and yawn. Will they keep going? Should they keep going, is a better question. I can't find an answer. I clutch my bag of now crushed BBQ chips even tighter. Alone. In the darkness. While a tap drips in another room. Over and over and over. It was stylish. It was better than scrunched up chips, but not much.
