Good story, Not enough for a whole film

By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.

The acting in this movie is really good.

The first episode was intriguing, shocking and disturbing- it led to a good first season, all in all. Afterwards, the plot started to get pretty absurd and by the end (season 3) it was just awful. There are some truly talented actors and actresses in this- REALLY amazing performances but shocking as it may come, it is the plot and script-writing that let the whole thing (and these actors) down. I wouldn't waste time on this- if they come out with more series, I will watch something else, not this.

Now that the series has come to an end with 3 seasons. I have decided to add it to my list of tragically underrated shows. It never got the praise it deserved. It was bloody, it was crazy and it was down right brilliant. What it wasn't though was the least bit realistic. Taking a show and calling it "Salem" and saying you were setting it during the witch hysteria and then go off in crazy directions turned off historical purists who were looking for a "retelling" which this was not. It wasn't even close. If anything it was more a battle of the sexes and a story about power and corruption set in a time when a lot of people were cut off from even the simplest things because of the simplest reasons. Of course the show wasn't perfect. It took a little too long to find its footing but once it did it was a wonder to behold. I would highly recommend this series to anyone who doesn't mind sex and violence on their shows and who loves a good war between good and evil. And anyone who likes a good battle between the sexes.

Gather every single fear or stereotype about puritans, witches, religious dogma and it's devils then wrap them tightly in extremely bad writing, stoic acting, corny plot twists and cheesy special effect. There you have it- Salem.It's scary right from the first episode and not in a good way. Certainly not because of it's extremely dark premise or obvious villainous plot lines.No dear ones, expect no subtleties. We might as well have big bold letters across the screen warning us -witchery devils ahead- like a big old red stop sign. Yes, that's how bad this sordid mess develops.The most scary part is knowing people actually rate this as good entertainment.Oh the horror... the horror....But then again maybe I'm reading it all wrong. Perhaps it's just a really bad comedy. Parody perhaps? Whatever it claims to be, Salem fails miserably on all fronts.Not for the educated or enlightened.

I only give it two stars simply because of the costumes. The acting, the entire cast/plot/script is just so awful, I can't get past the first episode. I tried with all my might to watch it in it's entirety, but failed to. It is so cheesy and dumb. There isn't one single male or female that I found even remotely attractive, let alone a colony of witches? Even the special effects are dumb. I honestly don't mind the spoken word being more modern, couldn't tolerate the "Ye" and the "Yay" anyhow. There is nothing remotely poetic about this series, other than it should have been canceled a long, long time ago. I would rather a more lengthy "The Last Kingdom" to have continued than this slop. No wonder everyone is absolutely loving "Starz" with their "Black Sails, "Vikings" and "Outlander" series available for rent. I will catch-up on all BBC-2, PBS, Starz, Masterpiece Theater(Poldark), etc shows than this one, any day! I've taken the entire Summer to binge watch series and this one, by far, is the very worst of them all..And yet, no season 3 of "the Fall" for viewing? Really? Bring back "Sparticus" and other shows that had some meat on them, this one is just for the youngsters.
