    Surprisingly incoherent and boring

    Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.

    This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

    The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;

    This is one of those things that have been done before but that King does in a way that you might not expect. Having read Shirley Jackson's book that this was inspired by, and knowing how King likes to play his movies/TV shows/mini series, I am still always amazed at how spooked out I get with Rose Red.It is long, but you won't regret it. Great acting, spooky house, and a creepy backstory make this one of my favorites. There are snarky comments, and for those die-hard King fans, references and similarities to other beloved stories. Enjoy!!!

    A truly horrible, derivative, boringly predictable movie. I could not decide if it was meant to be frightening or meant to be a joke, an uncertainty apparently shared by the actors & director (there was a director, right??).The professor was exceptionally annoying although she faced stiff competition especially, but not exclusively, from Emery. She seemed to continuously be smirking and baring her teeth in the manner of a frightened chimpanzee. The actor playing Emery had to have been told to play the part in the manner of Jerry Lewis in The Nutty Professor. Most everyone else seemed to be bored out of his/her mind, standing around waiting to deliver their lines as unconvincingly as possible.I guess it was an accomplishment that everyone (aside from the gaseously grimacing professor) managed to deliver his or her lines without smirking, although it might have been more entertaining if they played it as a comedy … not much better, but maybe a little.

    You want a movie that is entertaining, with never a dull moment, scary, beautiful scenery, very lovable characters, a genius writer, and with a quality "you shouldn't miss" movie? I tell you right now: stop searching because you have found your one! I never enjoyed a movie that takes so much time but this one, I wouldn't have missed a single second of it even if it took like 10 hours. The movie is amazing and no matter how thirsty you are for the horror if you happened to be a horror fan, you would still enjoy all the "un-horror" scenes! The movie succeeds in getting you falling in love with the mansion just like the character of Joyce and you find yourself without knowing thirsty to know more about the mansion and its owners who have some air of mysteriousness about them. Wow, every time Joyce told her team a new single piece of information about the history of the mansion, I craved for more.And the characters, oh my God they're all amazing with the funny Emry and his mom. There were scary scenes in the movie that I understood so much. The scenes where the characters get lost whenever they try to come down the stairs as the house changed and they didn't know their way back, I used to have similar dreams where I am in the middle of a road or an area that I know quite well and suddenly it changes and I get lost. It's really scary.A very decent movie but then again behind it is the genius Stephen King.

    I really enjoyed this. It is very good, very well made and the acting is very good as well by everyone. The pace is good and it's engaging. However,......sometimes it takes a long time for the actors to play out their scenes, take you to the place in the house they want to be and then......something happens that you anticipate as being very scary only to see something very mild. In other words, it isn't exactly a frightening film. It is more mysterious. If you are in the mood for a good haunted mansion film then this will do the trick. If you are looking for intense scares, you might be disappointed. The special effects are good but not fantastic. This is story & character driven. Some scenes play out a little bit too long and end a little flat. I think the characters would have been much more shocked by the situations they find themselves in but they seem to brush things off pretty easy. Sometimes it has a 'made-for-tv' feel.
