Sadly Over-hyped
... View MoreIt is not deep, but it is fun to watch. It does have a bit more of an edge to it than other similar films.
... View MoreLike the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
... View MoreThe movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
... View MoreThis was probably one of the better series on network TV. Visually it was stunning. Everything about the world created in Pushing Daisies had a fantastical feel to it. Everything was brighter and had a perfect feel. The concept was brilliant. You have a love story between two characters that can never touch. The conflict that arises from this is great. Lee Pace and Anna Friel are strong on their own, but together they had chemistry and were able to successfully pull off the love story. The supporting characters were also quirky and endearing. Superb casting.Such a shame that this series got canceled, it is one that I would be still watching if not axed.
... View MoreIf you're familiar with Bryan Fuller's work ("Wonderfalls", "Dead Like Me", and probably the only decent bits of "Heroes", which was otherwise less than stellar), you'll probably like this. It has many of his usual tropes: strong-minded female characters (although this time around, he main character is male), at least one female character with a male nickname, dark humor, and an element of the paranormal.Be warned, though: more so than any other series he's worked on, this one purposefully goes over the top with its style. Justifiably described as a "forensic fairytale", the colors are vibrant and lush, the names and places whimsical, and the humor dry and offbeat - with the occasional bonus of a musical number courtesy of Kristin Chenowith, as Olive. In the end, maybe that's why "Pushing Daisies" didn't make it. In spite of the dark humor and semi-morbid subject matter, there's a much bigger sense of hopefulness and joy at work here, and under that candy-coated exterior, a surprising amount of depth. But you have to be willing to look for it a little - so if you have a short attention span or are otherwise fairly cynical and enjoy things like watching other people fail, you'll hate this series. Go watch one of the many horrible and formulaic reality TV shows that are unfortunately still out there.Luckily, the rest of us can buy this show on DVD and bask in its exuberance anytime we want. It's pie, all right. And it's absolutely delicious.
... View MoreThis show is everything, interesting, shocking, warm, lovable, mysterious, happily quirky. It's also most kinds of genres, romance, mystery, awesomeness, even cooking, really. It leaves u happy and wanting more. 2 seasons? That's just a crime against humanity. We need more!!!!! I normally hate main characters, and am a serious movie nerd and snob, but I love everything about this show. The main characters, chuck and Ned the side characters, olive and Emerson, and the aunts too. The only problem with this show? Too many loose ends!!!!! Neds dad, chucks dad? The whole ending!!!!??? GDR. Make more please! And watch it!! Please!! And let me tell you one more thing. There is nothing, nothing better in this world then curling up with a good piece of pie and a blanket and watching pushing daisies. Nothing better.
... View MoreBy introduction, this series is glaringly cinematic, with Fuller applying a Beattyesque (Dick Tracy) style to its composition – garishly strong colours, simple and immediately recognisable "bad" people and benign, yet irritating, lead characters (apart from Emerson Cod). However, what, potentially, was a brilliant concept for a TV series, was produced as a wanton flagrant waste and while I appreciate the originality of the visual, it really is just a rip-off of other, more successful, artists, replacing solid characters with hollow mannequins and witty repartee with vacuous dialogue that chafes the intellect and exacerbates the senses. It really was a huge disappointment.
