What was really striking about Justin Timberlake being tricked into believing all his property had been seized was his muted response when he realized the truth. He knows a genuine reaction would be seen as uncool in the industry, but his rage and sense of betrayal were tangible. He broke character long enough to order the crew to put his truck down and leave (they ignored him, at least on camera.)In fact, the show depends on people not responding as any normal human would. Oh, I forgot, these are celebrities and this is America.I guess I want to live in a different world than than the producers of this very cruel and misguided show. But you know they did the pilot and got positive test screenings (with the same young men that play first person shooter video games?) and got the green light. How about a show where people are tortured or killed? I'm sure there's an audience. The sponsors should think twice before paying to have their products featured after this junk. And poor Ashton Kutcher, what actor in his right mind would host this? OK, I'll just flip over to the BBC and see images of the famine in Somalia. No tricks there, just reality. We must be a very rich county to be able to create fake misery with fake responses for our amusement.
... View MoreAshton Kutcher, star/producer of one of the most idiotic movies ever made ("The Butterfly Effect", what else?), hosts this watchable candid camera show. Now, Ashton, as nearly all former fashion models who broke into the movies, can't act and isn't funny. And it's not like he is merely unfunny in the normal "Saturday Night Live" way; he is shockingly unfunny, quite annoying even. Kutcher seems to think that shouting is a sure-fire method to make people laugh. Did he study in the French School of Miserable Comedic Timing And Unfunny Noise-Making? The clips themselves are usually solid, but whenever Mr.Demi Ashton-Moore talks into the camera I get sudden, violent urges...The other annoying thing about "Punk'd" is the dumb name. The ultra-commercial, hip-hop-loving MTV using the word "punk" for any purpose, but especially for a show hosted by a geeky 7-foot Demi-worshipping ex-runway prancer? I don't think so.The good thing about "Punk'd" is that if often reveals the natural stupidity of most of its celebrity victims. Whether it be the blond lady-boy (Nick Carter) from The Backstreet Boys saying "Yo, bro, whassup?" in all earnestness and without a tinge of irony, or Kanye West making an utter cretin of himself by running away with his video's footage, the incredible egos of these mostly talentless morons come to the forefront and this can be occasionally fun to watch."Punk'd" can also be quite educational. For example, I had no idea that Usher actually wears a sock on his head even when he is inside a building, i.e. someplace warm. In other words, it's not just an image thing with him - i.e. having a black piece of cloth covering his bald, round head - but he actually believes in it. Talk about staying true to one's retarded hip-hop-hype ideals...Still, "Punk'd" is more something to pass away the time with when there isn't anything better on. To anyone who really thinks that Kutcher comes up with the ideas on his own: he has an IQ of a pigeon. Can pigeons write, comedy even? I've never seen one do it...Did I mention how astoundingly bad that 70s-based sitcom with Ashton is?...
... View MoreBecause 2 nights ago I got a call from a long-distance line and the guy was asking/making some obscene jokes, my last name is "Hung" and he was using the word in an obscene way. I played along, thinking it was a friend of mine, but then at the end, he said "this is Ashton Kutcher and you've been punk'd". He then called back 5 minutes later joking around with me. I guess it did sound like him but hard to tell on the phone. He also made some jokes about his cock or something like that (if I wanted it, if it was big, etc). I wasn't freaked out by the call because I could tell it was a joke, and by someone pretty "clued up". And my name is in the public phone book so maybe he found it that way? Don't know.
