The greatest movie ever made..!

... View MoreI really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.
... View MoreThere is just so much movie here. For some it may be too much. But in the same secretly sarcastic way most telemarketers say the phrase, the title of this one is particularly apt.
... View MoreI came to this show reluctantly, being in desperate need of an 18th century epic drama upon which to binge, having recently finished my third-go-round of Outlander.I say "reluctantly" because the promotional images I'd seen for Poldark, plus snippets I'd read - including stories about Eleanor Tomlinson (never heard of her) publicly complaining that she wasn't paid as much as her co-star, despite him being an internationally recognised movie star fresh off a three billion dollar Hollywood blockbuster trilogy - combined to both irritate me, and convince me that Poldark was likely to be a tame, Sunday evening, family-friendly, BBC-PC load of un-challenging twaddle, targeted at menopausal women and owners of lace doilies.I was right. Somewhat. However, it is so well done, if you can get through the first few episodes, that it does eventually become addictive, as desired. It turns out that despite my lack of doilies or dried-up eggs, I have become a reluctant fan.Despite my initial suspicion that this would be unbearably feminist, pandering to a target audience of "modern" women seeking to ogle the lead actor's six-pack while re-enforcing their beliefs that all men are sexist misogynistic bastards, I was pleasantly surprised to find a gripping and intelligent social commentary unfolding, that focused more on social justice rather than sexual politics. So, although I still hold the "target" audience in all the contempt that they so richly deserve, I find that the product itself is of a superior quality that is equally fit for male consumption. (Though nowhere near as good as Outlander, of course!)P.S. Much of this was written with an ironic tongue planted firmly in my cheek, so lower your hackles and un-bristle your tails, all you angry man-haters out there! :p
... View MoreI'd say this is just as good as (though not better than) the original. They are just two different animals. This one has more slick production values, so beautiful scenery can be shown well, and good characterisation by Aidan Turner (I hope they don't cheapen the thing with more 'bare-chested views', though) and Elearor Tomlinson. I do miss the 'rustic chorus' that was in the initial series - and the peasants are portrayed as a bit too clean looking, in my view.It is good to see that the BBC can still produce something decent of the type that used to be produced (in the genre of North and South, though that was better), without descending into the onslaught of PC messaging that is so off-putting to many viewers, making them turn away from the BBC ...
... View MoreThis program is a total snore fest!Though I like the time period which the store is depicted. In the program, I had higher expectations based on the previous reviews, however, it goes to show that some review can sometimes be very esoteric in nature, none more so than this.I also appreciate the writer's attention to the audience as they reveal the various foreshadowing of the characters, yet I still remain unmoved by their efforts. Maybe it's just me, try it (at least) and see for yourselves. Hopefully, no one's offended
... View MoreEven Seinfeld wasn't always perfect, but I have yet to watch an episode of this series that left me feeling even the slightest disappointment. Although I certainly wouldn't expect to be let down--based on the absolutely fantastic seasons played thus far--it just becomes hard to believe that the series will bowl yet another strike. I barely view any television, and I've already re-watched the first season. There are ample ups and downs and twists, and you will likely be kept in suspense between episodes, but one of the most wonderful qualities of Poldark is the way the story will lift your spirits and revive your optimism about the human experience in general.
