The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

As i watched the last episode i just sit there in silence as the credits roll thinking about the various themes this show explored. What it is to be human?. How everything around us should be treated? Are we supposed to be on the top? Do we deserve that? Are we any different from an animal simply wanting to survive? What separates us as humanity? This show beautifully explored these themes with the introduction of parasite in the human lives. An amazing character study on the meaning of life itself. On the surface its damn entertaining and sometimes sentimental with interesting characters and parasite and enough bloody violence for an avid anime watcher to love but will also bring delight to the ones looking for something more as well. And it delivers it all in a well made show which might possibly be one of the best animes i've ever seen.Verdict: Beautiful

I'd have given the first half of this about an 8/10 but then the writer (in my opinion) got lazy/chickened out towards the end.I suspect the writer meant for the secret of the parasites to get out eventually, (At a certain point it became preposterous that this hadn't happened.) and the show was to become quite different in structure and scope when that happened. But the prospect of properly handling a completely different kind of narrative, a new direction for the show, as well as the introduction of new important characters, (that need to also be interesting) and a much longer story with a proper ending became too daunting, so instead the writer copped out and left many plot holes and created many more in an attempt to quickly bring it to a haphazard close. It quickly became logically incoherent and laughably hamfisted in it's (clearly nihilistic and seemingly global warming centered) messages... The show's apparent climax(s) consisted mostly of exposition in the form of long speeches from the protagonist that sound like they could have come from some nihilistic, liberal, university professor. I very much doubt this clearly talented writer set out to write something that ended in such a disappointing and IMO downright embarrassing way. Reminded me of the filler ending of the Claymore anime. "Lets just ignore everything else the plot was doing and give the main character someone to have an exciting fight with, and the audience'll be happy enough with that." Except Parasyte went with having two life threatening but otherwise boring fights instead. The friend I was watching it with saw that it was coming apart at the seams and decided to stop watching and do something better with his time only two episodes away from the end, I regret not following his lead...If you're gonna watch it my advise is to skip the last two episodes at least, it should be fairly clear to you at that point that a satisfying and plot hole free ending would be totally impossible with only two episodes left. I only continued because I thought the series might've still been coming out.

This one started a bit like most anime, teenagers that find they are "the hero" by accident. But it evolved so fast to something much bigger than that. Most of the protagonists grow, mature they gain dimension an profundity. This anime doesn't pull any punches it plucks your heart's strings and it hits them HARD.Shinichi is an amazing protagonist as is Murano, the support cast the antagonists the detectives also play an important and relevant part in all of this but by far, beyond her small part in the story, my favourite character was Kana.Basilisk, afrosamurai, Shigurui, attack on titan, akame ga kill and berserk are amongst my all time favourites... but Parasyte is head and shoulders above the rest.

This anime is truly a masterpiece, I can't understand why it is so unknown. Perhaps it is because people expect it to be some sf-anime with over the top action scenes and cliché character 'development'.The concept is quite original: an unknown life form is starting to eat people all over the world. First they find a host and take over his brain, and then they use that host to feed and live. However, something goes wrong with our main character (Izumi): the parasite can't take over his brain and is forced to take his arm instead. Thus, Izumi retains his human consciousness but loses control of his right arm. His only option is to live in symbiosis with the parasite, the parasite as well needs his host to survive, and therefore has to defend a human. What we get next is a nearly flawless story, amazing character development, philosophical themes such as what it means to be human. All the while, the series manages to steer clear of typical plot devices, stereotypic human behaviour displayed and over the top action/emotional scenes. The story never feels forced as it is the case in many other anime. There is gore, (intelligent) action, there is love, friendship. But most importantly, all these themes are balanced which makes this anime dynamic.Nice soundtrack as well. For reference: other anime I find very good are Death Note, Steins; Gate, Code Geass (esp R2), Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Monster ...
