    Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.

    The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;

    Amazing cinematography, great directing, beautiful costumes, poignant soundtracks, impeccable acting, heartwarming plot.....and the list goes on. Words cannot describe how impressed I am towards this Korean historical drama. The reason why I did not rate this drama as a perfect 10, is because it has a rushed and messy ending. However, I am still incredibly amazed and blown-away by this drama. The drama is based on a novel of the same title, which centers around the life of real-life historical painter Shin Yun Bok(portrayed by Moon Geun Young). There is a twist in the novel/drama: Shin Yun Bok is actually a girl in disguise as a boy in order to enter the Royal Painting bureau. Moon Geun Young has done an impeccable job in portraying SYB. If I had not known that Moon Geun Young is actually an actress, I would have mistaken her for an actor!!!!! Her acting is top-notch; she delivered every speech and action perfectly. She gave the character SYB life and the character remains alive in my heart even until now. Therefore, Moon Geun Young has become one of my favorite actresses in no time. The chemistry between the cast is good, however, I reckon that Moon Geun Young and actress Moon Chae Won(who portrayed Jeong-Hyang) had the BEST chemistry in the drama. Being confused with her sexuality, Shin Yun Bok fell in love with the musically-gifted Gisaeng Jeong- Hyang. Whenever both characters appear on-screen together, their intense chemistry is apparent. When both characters have eye contact, it is as if a thousand sparks had exchanged between their eyes. Their interactions were incredibly precious and unique. I had hoped that they would have more interactions in the drama. Besides the acting, the cinematography and writing are fantastic. The writer, together with the director, masterfully incorporated the famous paintings of painter Shin Yun Bok into the plot. The paintings came to life, literally. Being a lover of paintings, I am absolutely in love with how paintings were woven into the storyline of the drama and how the paintings were drawn from scratch(professional painters were hired in the drama to replicate the paintings). I am incredibly mind-blown by the beautiful cinematography skills. The plot is very exciting and I had to watch episodes back-to-back. The plot twists never failed to surprise me, leaving me in a state of awe and disbelief. There were some awesome scenes which were unique to the drama, which I adored greatly. I found the drama very heartwarming, some parts were heartbreaking, even. Ah, the amazing and lovely soundtracks that were played throughout the drama had complemented every scene perfectly. I was hugely impacted by the songs and I adore them immensely. I could not stop humming the songs to myself even after completing the drama. Memories of the drama never fail to flood back into my mind whenever I hear the soundtracks, leaving me feeling poignant. The soundtracks of Painter of the Wind remain as one of my favorite Korean drama soundtracks. Therefore, Painter of the Wind is an enjoyable drama to watch. It showcases many aspects of the Arts as well as relationships between people. The drama is just BEAUTIFUL.

    portrait of an universe. politic, drama, fights, love, revenges, wars in different forms. all in the frame of art. at first sigh, nothing new. the Koreean cinema is master of this kind of mixtures between history, civilization drops and delicate traces of soap opera. but, in this case, all seems be a little different. not only for the performance of actors, plot or costumes. but for the slices of delicate beauty who seduce and change all events in a special light. a film about courage and force of drawing. an image about art as religion, instrument of truth and survive, armor, gun and sense of life. Moon Geun Young in a nice lovely role.
