All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.

Horror Movies premering on TV at the time was a real treat because back then our access to them was limited, from way back when we honestly couldn't even buy a copy. And really made it something to look forward to kick back and watch on a late night if you can't think of anything better to do, nothing on at the theater or simply have a good time. It was one of the things that help introduce and get me into the horror genere and everything it contained. Another thing it did for me was it was one of the things that inspired me to speak/act in front of the camera, showing me that I can actually have fun and be myself.Monstervision out of a lot of the horror hosted shows is my favorate one, this believe it or not was the very first horror hosting show I ever seen and I still feel is one of the best. Not a lot I can say, this show just premered a lot of really fun films not just horror but sci-fi and on occasion fantasy and action all B movie, cult classic goodness. The only bad thing was unfortunately most parts of the film were censored which kinda sucks, this was before the ratings board and those censor function you all familiar with. But this didn't dull the experience for me from that at least it motivated me to rent or buy those copies so I can see the film in it's athunticity. But personally what I really tuned into this show for is "Joe Bob Briggs" himself. This guy is just the ultimate horror host, he is just so much fun he just has some of the darndest things to say and a delishious delivery and presentation. I even really love that theme song which is one of my favorate theme songs, it's kinda a simple country song but an actually fun one because it's comical and let alone the song is about horror movies, which you honestly don't see on any country singers venue or radio station. There are some memorable episodes like the "Friday the 13th" marathon which was great and was what really got me into the franchise. Though for some damn reason they couldn't play the forth film, I really like his reaction which was funny but actually genuine that was mine also; it's like ordering a meal and expecting everything to be there only to look in the bag and discover not everything is in place, yeah that tees me off.But in each episode there was also something happening to keep things fun and interesting. From Joe talking to some guy outside that we never see which I always found funny and strange since the guy never really talks back, kinda makes you wonder if Joe can hear him telepathically. There would be some guest stars he would interact with some horror alumi which was really cool. But my favorate was when he would do those lists and personal ratings, I always crack up whenever he would name all the different non existant martial arts styles each of them with the suffix fu at the end. Most of this was actually inproved or at least it looked that way in places, but whatever the case it was an example of good hosting all the same. This show is a real treat for anyone for horror fans into vintage horror host shows, it's a real gem. Rating: 4 stars

MONSTERVISION was a great cable show that had a guy named Joe Bob Briggs sittin around a trailer drinkin cheap beer and commenting on old horror movies(some of them good, some of them middle-of-the-road,some of them bad...but so bad they are good,y'know???) Although SOME of the movies were entertaining the real reason to watch was the wise-cracks joe Bob would make about the movies. Before the movie would start he would tell ya a little something about the flick, and then hold up a chart that told you pretty much how people in the flick would meet thier demise.(If you cared about the "element of surprise" you didnt watch this part, which is a shame cuz it was the funniest part). For instance,he held up a chart that would say 1 Decapitation, 2 knife wounds, 1 hammer in the eye and 1 kick in the groin. Then the movie would start...sometimes good, sometimes bad...then they would go to break, and before the movie would start again they would show Joe Bob drinkin his cheap beer and laughing about something that had been in the clip of movie they had just shown. If someone had a really dumb line, or if there was a big plot problem he would point it out. He was really very funny and had a good banter with the others on the show...as well as cast and crew. I remember once they showed RAISING CAIN,a movie I had already seen...so I taped it and fast fowarded through the movie parts and just watched the Joe Bob parts. This was a good show to tape. That way even if you didnt care for the movie you could watch Joe Bob crack wise. In my opinion Joe Bob needs a new show.(if I had the funding,I'D give him one). When that day comes I will gladly be his mail girl.

Monstervision is my all time favorite TV show. Joe Bob Briggs and his cheesy movies helped me get through countless tough Saturday nights. Even though I fell asleep during the second movie every week, I especially enjoyed Joe Bob's rants before each show and his tidbits in between commercials as well as Rusty the mail girl and obscure guests such as Linnea Quigly, Zachary Ty Bryan and Eugene Levy. The movies were great also. (the Guyver, Embrace of the Vampire, Voodoo, The Beastmaster, et. al. i recall Joe Bob's Friday the 13th marathon on Halloween being a real treat. I don't understand what happened to this great show. I came home from college for the summer one year and it was just gone. No explanation, no farewell show, just nothing!! Another network should pick up Monstervision or even just give Joe Bob another similar show. It had a cult following and no real competetion at 1:30 AM on saturdays...whats the problem??Someone please get Joe Bob back on the air. He is THE MAN.

I've been watching this show for three years now, and I simply love it because of how funny Joe Bob Briggs is. In fact, he's my idol now.Every Saturday night I tune into TNT to watch the cheesy flicks he hosts, and I like only SOME of the ones he plays. My favorite segments in his show are when he reads some fain mail on the air with Rusty the Mailgirl (because I send some in) and when he does the Drive-In Totals for a film he shows. I hope that "Monstervision" remains to be the longest running television series, as long as everyone's favorite funny man stays as host. It wouldn't be the same without him. You can also catch Mr. Briggs make cameo appearances in films such like "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2", "Casino", "The Great Outdoors", and "Face/Off".Right next to Howard Stern, Joe Bob Briggs may top over the classy radio DJ as the "King of all Media".
