One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.

I can't really find any flaws in this. It's funny, violent, the effects are surprisingly good, and even when some of the cast are replaced (usually a show-killer) it remains brilliant! So if you, like me, are sick of Marvel, but still want to watch superheroes (or super anti-heroes in this case), this is what you want to watch!

I just watched all the episodes in the first two seasons in almost one go, and now I regret it because the funny character, Nathan, sadly disappears after the hilarious Christmas special. I cringed through the first episode of season 3. Not only is he gone, he is replaced by a terrible tw*t who's job is to be "funny like Robert Sheehan" and fails so massively. In addition to that the whole story line goes, the build up of tension flattens out and even their superpowers are exchanged to other powers, which is unlikely and a total failure. God, why is it like that? It's like half the series that are produced, are just made up as they go along, instead of building the story in the long run. Even though this is a comedy, it would be awesome to see these guys evolve into actual superheroes. Funny and awkward superheroes. The cast is great, they are funny and you just gotta love their quirky and messed up behavior. The Storm changes everyone in their group, but you don't know what power everyone got before season one is finished. But the storm changed a lot of other people as well, so each episode is totally unpredictable! This series has edge, irony and a whole lot of bad language. I love everyone's accent, which adds a lot to the comedy. It also has a lot of meaningless violence and killing at random, and why not. They have to be superheroes over something, right. Robert Sheehan carried Misfits from the beginning. His character Nathan is brilliantly Cheeky. (I was't allowed to write prohibited words in this review, and that is difficult after watching this series for several days, ha ha.)

In countless superhero stories, some strange phenomenon causes someone to have superpowers, and they use those powers to save or rule the world. Typical was the series Heroes, in which a *lot* of people get superpowers and every one of them winds up being a hero or villain. While this is entertaining, I have always thought that it wasn't very realistic. I mean, if I suddenly gained superhero powers, I wouldn't go out every night listening for screams, nor would I start robbing banks. I would probably just go on with my life, using my powers if I needed them for something but mainly not doing anything different. The creators of Misfits apparently thought the same thing. The show turns that Heroes concept on its head, as a freak storm changes people in weird ways and they then try and live their lives.I discovered this show a couple of weeks ago and am now in the middle of season 2, so I can't speak beyond that point, but so far this is brilliant. While some characters have traditional superpowers involving mind-reading or invisibility, other powers are fairly useless - a narcissistic girl creates sexual obsession when touched - and some non- main characters just get weird, like a guy who periodically thinks he's a dog. The main characters are an interesting lot; sullen young people doing public service for minor crimes. The standout is the obnoxious, funny Nathan, who is weird and rude and unpleasant but manages to hint at an underlying fragility that keeps you from hating him. But even minor characters are solid, well-acted, and fully formed. The series is an engaging mix of humor, superpowers, growing up, drugs and sex, action, and drama. While its take on gaining superpowers seems truer than that of Heroes, it is not any less ridiculous, and I wouldn't say it was better than Heroes' first terrific season, but it's different and refreshing and well worth seeing. Also, as a middle-aged guy who often finds series about young people grating, it's proof that the real problem is most U.S. series about young people are just truly awful. This one has relatable characters and terrific music.

First things first: Watch the first two seasons of this amazingly quirky obnoxious show! I quickly fell in love with the Misfits and could not wait to watch each episode! So why did I give this show a 7? Because you can't rate individual seasons.Seasons 1 & 2 are absolutely amazing! If this show had ended after season 2 I would rate it (overall) right up there with Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones as some of the best TV to come out in a long time. However it did not end, it went on for several more seasons and some of the magic was lost IMO.SPOILER ALERT (minor/semi-big spoiler coming but no names)When we lose one of the original cast at the end of season 2 (note: I'm not saying death or not death, nor *who* is gone just that someone is gone), season 3 loses just a little bit of the magic that the show had in seasons 1 & 2. That said there was still solid chemistry amongst the Misfits, and some great writing for season 3. If the show had ended at the end of season 3, I could have still rated it a very solid 9. Maybe 9.5.SPOILER ALERT (the next spoilers are BIG, still no names)Season 4 kind of falls apart. We lose more of the original cast and It feels like the writers are trying to replace those that have gone with almost the same archetypes and it just doesn't work. The cast of season 4 does not have the chemistry that existed in the first 3 seasons. Further, the one remaining original cast member turns very 1-dimensional,(here comes the big SPOILER I warned about - still no names)so much that when this character dies, I wasn't really that sad. Had this character died in any of the first 3 seasons I would have been screaming at my television begging that it didn't happen. However that was not the case. It was a bit sad, but more sad was that the character had really been turned into more of prop or anchor to try to hold together the new cast. It was a real shame, because I really liked this character, especially the character's growth during season 3.I'm writing this review without having seen the 5th (final) season. I don't know if I will watch it. I've basically forced myself through the 4th season. Had the 4th season been the first season of this show, it would have been cancelled and no one would be writing about it IMHO. Really it's nothing special. I might watch season 5 kind of like the same reason you slow down to gawk at an accident on the road, but I have very very low expectations at this point. That said, don't let my sourness on the later seasons stop you. Watch the first 3 seasons. There is a solid story and you will feel like you saw something worthwhile. After that, you can decide if you want to dip your toe into seasons 4 & 5. Who knows, maybe the cast changes will work for you, then again maybe not.UPDATE: I decided to watch season 5 after all, I just *needed* to see how this show would end. While I still feel Season 4 is a train wreck and the cast does not have the chemistry that existed in the first 3 seasons, I do have to say that season 5 got better. I'll still stick to my overall rating, but I have to admit I was totally busting a gut during the Season 5 final episode!
