What begins as a feel-good-human-interest story turns into a mystery, then a tragedy, and ultimately an outrage.

This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

Wonderful series which I watch with my daughter. But it is cute so you have to like "cute" otherwise you could be dissapointed. But we think the happy colours and the film itself is really, really beautiful made and there is certainly a happiness all over the film so again: if you don't like happiness don't watch. It makes us happy!

While I agree with nbmartino's very long and reasoned review I want to add a few things. First, this show is out of order on Netflix and the order is different depending on the source, it's not a HUGE deal since there is very little overarching plot in the first season but just keep it in mind if that's something you're concerned about. Secondly, as of right now some of the "flaws" in the show have been corrected. There have been two episodes that reveal the history of the miraculous (the jewelry that gives the heroes their powers) in a major way and a few more facts dropped here and there. There have also been references to major historical figures that may have had miraculous and it is also implied that this is a world in which superheroes are fairly common, ore expected. Thirdly, Hawkmoth's identity (which is quite easy to predict from season one) is revealed in season two, as well as his motivations. He is very clearly not just here to take over the world and his story has slowly been revealed along with the mythology of the Miraculous and they are deeply intertwined. I would argue that the main flaw of this story is the slowness of the overarching plot. It's clear that this show is for kids not just in the themes, but in the fact that children are unlikely to watch every episode. Personally, despite the fact that I've been teaching children in this exact demographic for almost two years, I don't know a single child that watches it or has even heard of it. I'm 98% sure that only adults are interested, but despite that fact the show seems to have the quality of other shows for young children. The themes are very overt, and do not tackle issues in a realistic way, rather they present this sort of "always do your best and be nice and forgiving" sort of ideal (which is GREAT for kids I'm not trashing it at all). The plot is predictable and simple (again, GREAT for kids, it helps them to comprehend the big picture so they can start to dissect the little details we grown ups are used to). And there's not a lot of overarching plot, because kids usually can't/don't follow shows (they don't get to control the TV after all, and most 5 year olds have a limit to how much they can watch). So it's a long show to just watch. My suggestion is to binge this show, it makes the boring stuff go faster, and the overarching plot will be more enjoyable, you won't find yourself forgetting details. I would also highly recommend this for children. I grew up on Sailor Moon and yes it did turn me gay (that was a joke, calm down), but it also taught me that violence is not the answer. Reacting with kindness and understanding is a better way to respond to attack than to attack back. Miraculous does the same thing, Marinette's powers represent creation, problem solving, and redemption for the villains. The basic template involves her creating an object that she uses (through a sort of clever use of simple machines usually) to destroy an object which will release the evil akuma and return the "bad guy" to their normal benign selves. Ladybug is not only the clear leader of the team, she is the brains, and the ultimate problem solver. She is never the damsel in distress. That is such a great message for boys and girls, because Ladybug and Chat work as a team. Ladybug isn't his princess, and Chat isn't her knight in Shining armor. The dynamic is supportive without being stifling. In her daily life, Marinette is also the kind of person that stands up for people, and that's gained her a lot of loving friends. She will not suffer injustice or unkindness, and that's just who she is. Whatsmore the "mean girl" on the show isn't the popular one, there's no notion that cruelty gets you power, rather it shows children that kindness is the best way to make friends and be successful. And finally, on a sensory level, the animation creates wonderfully expressive faces for emotional literacy, as well as uses bright colors and an exotic setting (not the US or a US like city as many children's' shows are set in) to provide for maximum sensory input. If you are an adult with no kids or students, this is still a great show. In addition to the amazing themes, it's just plain adorable. The characters are all lovable, and you'll be deeply drawn into the love square right away. Not to mention that Marinette is a rare multi-racial female protagonist, that alone should be enough to try supporting it. There's also a lot of great Easter eggs, and the creators really do make great use of the animation culture that's been created in the last few decades with many archetypes being adapted from anime and superhero fiction.

To Sum Up Miraculous Ladybug:Pros: Fun and relatable main characters Great animation An amazing representation of the potential of 3D animation Romance is enjoyable to watch and is something to look forward to Story written in three months, great showCons: Lack of a threatening antagonist Cat Noir seems unneeded against the villains faced The origins of the two superheroes are put as the season finale Ladybug's main superpower is the definition of plot convenience Needs more variety of superpowers to be used by the heroes Needs more interaction with some of the secondary characters introduced(Take note that many of these cons are confirmed to be solved within the next season.)
