Excellent, Without a doubt!!

It's not great by any means, but it's a pretty good movie that didn't leave me filled with regret for investing time in it.

It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.

There is definitely an excellent idea hidden in the background of the film. Unfortunately, it's difficult to find it.

"Magnum PI" was of course a vehicle for Tom Selleck. He was Magnum, no doubt a great looking guy who the chicks dug, but also the type of leading man the guys liked. He had a sense of humor, was loyal to his friends and had his ethics and responsibility. But John Hillerman as Higgins, the ex-Sgt. Major who was the Major Domo of Robins Nest and may or may not have been Robin Masters, was astounding in his portrayal. Higgins could be a pretentious know it all, but then he usually knew something about most everything. And behind the stiff English stoicism breathed a generous and caring human. He had seen it all in his career in the British military and intelligence and although he was retired he relished the chance for action afforded by his association with Magnum. Hillerman just nailed the part and nothing was better than the scenes between him and Selleck. Higgins could often get quite irritated with Magnum, but there was always a grudging respect and admiration for each other. I wouldn't call it a father-son relationship, nor was Magnum and Higgins buddies the way he was with Rick and TC, but a sense of camaraderie that 2 professional commandos have for each other.The whole Robin Masters and Robin's Nest was a brilliant bit by the creators of Magnum. There was some preposterous stuff like having a PI driving a red Ferrari, a cool car but just a bit hard to keep any semblance of anonymity in such a ride. Good cast, I've mentioned Hillerman. Nothing special about Manetti or Mosley as Rick and TC, although they did have some good comic moments. Enjoyed Agatha, Tanaka, Mac, the luscious Lt Maggie Poole {never figured why Magnum didn't hit on her} A lot of comedy in this show, plus some very moving moments. Without a doubt, one of the best shows of its genre.

When Magnum PI first aired I was 12 years old. I watched it when I was a teenager, then again in University, and recently on British TV. The show is "cute" in that many scenes and actions don't happen today because technology and habits have changed. Sorta reminds me when I used to watch "I love Lucy".But and that is where the "cuteness" stops. This show is awesome! Even 30 years later the writing, acting and scenes are timeless. The Vietnam war was quite often discussed, and if you were to replace it with say Iraq, and terrorism you would have a modern show. This is how good the writing is in that even though Vietnam is 40 years old the fall out from war and how we grow as people is not.What makes Magnum so good is that it is not over the top and cliché for the time (eg Three's Company, Miami Vice). So as I watch the shows for the fourth time in my life I have to say very very good. Definitely worth the watch.

A man, his mustache, a Ferrarri, loyal friends, beautiful Hawaii .... What more could you want? Thomas Magnum (Tom Selleck) is employed on the Hawaiian estate of a wealthy absentee owner name Robin Masters. The estate is run by Jonathan Higgins (John Hillerman) who mostly tolerates Magnum's presence as head of security on the estate. Helicopter pilot TC (Roger E. Mosley) and club owner Orville 'Rick' Wright (Larry Manetti) are war buddies from Vietnam.This is classic 80s Television. He is not only cool but very personable. Women love him and guys want to be him. He is eminently recognizable as an iconic TV detective. It does get a bit convoluted in the later years but overall, this is one of the best of the genre.
