This movie is the proof that the world is becoming a sick and dumb place

This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.

One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.

The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

Not only is this one of the best attempts at drama HBO has ever produced, the finished product has a quality and sheen rarely achieved in this venue. This cast is beyond belief with an interaction I have never seen before. Hoffman, Ortiz and Nolte make the simplest gestures memorable. The writing is so mesmerizing it seems to be over before it's barely begun. The other less-obvious fact no one gets is that this effort has the potential of cult status which many thought John from Cincinati aspired to but did not fulfill, trailing off instead to mediocrity. It would be very simple for the brilliant writers to create (with long-shots, archival footage and slow-mo} a finished product which relies mainly on clever writing and (God forbid I say it) Artistic Action Sequences. This wonderful attempt should not be scrapped--it should be re-thought.

I love this show. Now having said that yes there is room for improvement. However for a new series just getting their feet wet, it's improving every episode.Second, I love the music. Every choice is great. Some I've even been looking up to add to my collections. As for music during the races I seem to be turning it up as the episode goes on because I keep getting more into it. I have a nice set up Yamaha amp and Paradigm speakers and fine the audio sounds great in 5.1.The plot at the start has a few directions it could move, but I feel the general route their taking is OK. The developing story of revenge echoes through and wants to come to the surface. All in all, it's at least comparable to what's out there in TV land and I feel it's better. With every step they take the the directors and producers are building a foundation which I hope gets to see a conclusion.

As of this review, we are into episode 6 of this series. I still have no idea what the series is about. There is an underlying hint of something, but it is so vague and undefined. My reaction at this point is what are Hoffman and Nolte even doing in this series? For one thing, their voices are so garbled and aged, they really need subtitles when these two guys are on screen. So far, their presence makes no sense. On the other hand, the supporting cast is really great and their stories are the only thing driving the story to this point. Dennis Farina is great in this series as the sidekick for Hoffman, and it is great to see his star rising. Of course, the horses are really magnificent and it is great to see the scenes where the horses shine. In the art of story telling it is OK I guess to have a slow build up to the point of the story, but in this series the writers have left us with no clear idea as to what the point of the whole story really is. Because of this poor story telling, I have given the series a low rating. Hoffman's character in particular is troubling. The character is so stiff. As the first-billed star of the show, his role is to drive the main story, but it is his role, his intentions, that are so poorly defined as to make the overall story unintelligible at this point. Honestly, take out Hoffman and Nolte and it would be a better story, at least at this point.

In the casting at least.Actors you would have thought had long been put out to pasture. But these are aging heavyweights. They have class that guys in Twilight can only dream of.They come together to provide an intriguing look at the underbelly of horse racing. The language is ugly but natural. Characters speaking instead of actors abusing on cue.No inexplicably nude women. No spoon feeding either. Characters don't take the time to explain insider terms. You will have to educate yourself if you care enough to follow the show.No shock and awe opening which is then strung out into interminable episodes. Start is discouraging. Story seems aimless. Show looks like a dead end. But as you sit bemused, it sneaks up on you. By the end of the pilot you will know if you are hooked or not.Cgi was obvious but injury to horse was still ghastly.Mainstream is pathetically shallow. So anything different is often blindly credited with depth it does not possess. Was this the tip of the iceberg ? Will there actually be hidden depths ? Only time will tell. Or this review, if it is updated.Definitely watching.Wish them well.Thank you.Cancelled due to 3 horses dying during shooting.
