Sadly Over-hyped
... View MoreIt’s an especially fun movie from a director and cast who are clearly having a good time allowing themselves to let loose.
... View MoreThe movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

... View MoreLife on Mars is another show I missed when it originally aired, so I watched them all on demand in a couple of weeks. It is about DCI Sam Tyler, who has an accident and then wakes up 33 years back in time. We see Sam try to familiarise with his new surroundings, his new work colleagues and trying to find out what has happened so he can get 'home' (present day). As the series goes on we see Sam struggle with all the problems going on in his head. There is a new police case in every episode but the main plot is about Sam trying to find out what has happened to him. It really is an excellent idea to add something a bit different. This is not your usual cop show. The main cast are all great. John Simm is fantastic in the lead role, the flashback scenes he has really send a shiver down your spine. Gene Hunt is a character that grew on me as the series went on. At first I found him a bit annoying but then towards the end I found I liked him a bit more. Liz White as Annie Cartwright was probably my favourite character, she keeps them all sane and she is just adorable.Another cracking drama by BBC which is wrapped up nicely in just 16 episodes. I'm yet to watch Ashes to Ashes but hopefully I will at some point, although how do I face watching a show without Sam and Annie? Excellent British drama, highly recommended. 9/10.
... View MoreIt's shows like this that make me realize how awful American television is. There are an abundance of cookie-cutter police dramas, many with a ridiculous number of sequels, but Life on Mars is in a class all its own. And not just because it has a scifi slant to it. It's just exceptionally entertaining.John Simm is a real gem of an actor. What a treat to come across him in this performance. There are a lot of scenes in which he's quite emotional and it fits perfectly with the whole feel of the show. It has a perfect balance between the all-out ballsiness of the crude policing style of the era and the locale and the touches of nostalgia in reverse for the current state of policing.Kudos to the writers for their originality and daring to mix a touch of sci-fi with a gritty and irreverent British police drama. The ending is the most brilliant part. It is even more enigmatic than the finale of Lost. In Life on Mars, the ending lends itself to multiple speculations. Just when you think you've figured out what was really going on you realize, no, that's not possible because...wait a minute...what if...You get the idea. Just watch it and see what theory you come up with.
... View Morewell, honestly when i saw the trailers for this show i thought it would be utter tripe but after having seen the first couple of episodes i was entirely engrossed by the interesting slants given on this '70's' cop show. the characters are compelling throughout the whole series especially Gene Hunt who really makes this show go from a 9 to a perfect 10.other brilliant areas within this show would be the intriguing coma/time travel/mad concept which at certain times within the show was downright terrifying and at others added a nice layer of intrigue. all in all a real must see for anyone who enjoys funny, interesting dialogue and strangely compelling characters.
... View MoreI started to watch this series on PBS a couple of weeks ago. All I can say is "WOW!!!" I was lucky enough to be around in 1973. In fact '73 was one of the best years of my life! This series brings back some fond memories, especially the music and the cheesy way they used to dress back then! This show is carefully crafted; from the music, the cars, even the "minor" things like the people being clueless about cell phones, PCs, and iPods! Even the televisions are ancient! I got a kick out of the Bobbie who thought a Jeep Cherokee was a "military vehicle"! And the way the main character screams about graduating from the police academy in 1988 and saying that '88 was "Star Trek" compared to 1973! And also the way he said, "You could have at least put me in a year from A.D. not. B.C.!" The irony of it all rests with the young kids today who are just as "clueless" about that way of life just as those living back then would be "clueless" about today's technology and changes. Highly entertaining, refreshing for us "old folks" and tremendously recommended to everyone!
