This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.

We are all around you. Kindred The Embraced was a fantastic fantasy/thriller that led the viewer into the Masquerade that was the kindred. Not just another vampire show/movie. This series had depth of characters and was sadly axed by fox. I bought the DVD box set & love every minute of it;)Had it not been axed, the show wouldn't have been able to continue without the lead actor Mark Frankel whom played "The Prince" Julian Luna, the judge, the jury & the executioner. Mark was killed while riding his favorite yellow Harley on the streets of London September 24, 1996, at the tender age of 33. Marks' family is left to mourn this charismatic man with a 1000 watt smile. This is a MUST SEE for those that like the night life & all it encompasses.

This was a wonderful series, full of interesting and charismatic actors. I've followed Patrick Bauchau, for example, ever since, especially as Sydney in The Pretender. The really sad thing is that the star, Mark Frankel, who played Julian Luna, was killed in a motorcycle accident the summer after the series wrapped, leaving a wife and two small children. Don't know if the show had any chance of continuing, but obviously that was the end of that -- and a promising career and life. Too bad there aren't real vampires, so he could have survived beyond the tragedy! As I understand it, some of those who had played the game on which it was based were unhappy with the show -- they felt it didn't really do justice to its complexity or follow its rules. Never having played the game, I had no such reservations. I thought the show was well-written and excitingly paced, and would recommend the set to anyone interested in this genre.

I loved the show and never missed one. We even played the role playing game longer than the show lasted. I wish it ran longer or I wish someone would bring it back. It was very interesting with all the different characters, the clans and how they interacted in the city and with all the normal non-vampires in the city too. They were in their own little world and they were also in the normal world, that made it interesting to me. It made you wonder if they are really some out there, the way some people act. The story was great and they could have did more with it if it had lasted longer. I recommend watching it, if it is out there somewhere. I grew up watching Dark Shadows so I have always loved vampires. I also wish there was a cast list for the show on this site. I have seen some of the actors since but don't know their names.

In defending the White Wolf roleplaying game, I feel that those who have commented before me have made the error most of the fans of the game made in viewing the show. The show was only loosely based around Mark Rein*Hagen's works. It was titled Kindred: The Embraced, and not Vampire: The Masquerade for a reason. Was I somewhat disappointed by the fact that they radically interspersed the powers of the kindred from what was in the game? Only because I thought it homoginized the charecters, where clan became largely irrelevant. Of the regular clans on the show, Gangrel, Ventrue and Brujah differed only in their fashion sense, while Toreador and Nosferatu benifited from having distinct and identifiable differences. My only other real complaint of the series was this: The main premise in Mark Rein*Hagen's work was that each vampire had to struggle with his inner best. "Monsters we are, lest monsters we become" being the most popular expression. Watching Julian Luna struggle with his inner beast versus his desire to retain his humanity would have added greatly to the series. That said, I was entertained by the show, and saddened by the fact that it had so short a run. I honestly hope someone takes a shot at this source material again, because I believe that in the right hands it would do very well.
