There are better movies of two hours length. I loved the actress'performance.

It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.

Recently, I started reading the Gantz manga and I had finished it just a few weeks ago, and I really liked it, so I started watching the anime and it was amazing, amazing story, amazing characters and everything I could possibly wish for in an anime, it had only one problem, and it was that the characters took way too long in making a single decision, sometimes the show needed to do it to make a point an, but sometimes they just did it to make the episodes a bit longer, you can tell which ones are filler because they are just unnecessary and add nothing to the episodes. Anyways, the show was really great, however, due to the extreme violence and graphic sexual content, they heavily censored the show on Japanese television, so they eventually released an uncut version, which is extremely overpriced at about $10 for each DVD, which only contained 2 episodes, and the show had 26 episodes, meaning that I had to pay $130 just to watch the uncut show. One of the things that makes the show so great is that it's unexpected, you never see anything coming until it happens and when it does, it is shocking (unless you have read the manga) it has amazing animation, especially for its time and great music. I was enjoying every second of it, and then the second season started, at first, it was just as good if not better than the first season, and then they start adding filler character after filler character dragging everything on as long as they possibly could, and this is where it jumped the shark, at this point, Gonzo could not make any more episodes because they had caught up with the manga, so they ended the show with a horrendous filler finale that had endless plot holes, character derailments and general stupidity up to its nonsensical ending, I would have given this show a 9, or maybe even a 10, because of how good it was, but the ending left a bad taste in my mouth. After you finish the anime I recommend you read the manga, it is even better than the anime, however it is also more violent and has even more graphic sexual content, so if your stomach is not up for the extreme violence, I don't blame you, but if it is, then read away.

I first came across Gantz in comic book form. Online that is, read a few pages and liked the story (somewhere in the middle of the alien invasion, one/two of the people being kept as pets) but really wasn't looking for this kind of stuff at that moment. Some time after I came across the movie Gantz. It was OK but no more than an intro and as usual with Asian stuff slow passed and with little explanation of what is happening. Now I just learned that there is a second Gantz movie. Haven't watched it jet, well not completely. But I doubt it's gonna be worth watching. However Looking for Gantz 2 I came across this anime show. Now I read the Gantz story on Wikipedia so for me the whole point of watching this show was to see that story, so Gantz training missions » alien invasion » beating the aliens » explanation where Gantz comes from.Imagine my disappointment after going trough all the immense slow progressing episodes and not even getting to the alien invasion at the end.Let me list some more things that made it so bad.* The lack of explaining stuff to newcomers just because people wouldn't believe it anyhow. And when there is an explanation attempt it's mostly gibberish. How hard is it to tell the newcomers the sphere seems to be some piece of alien tech that duplicated and/or teleported them just before their deaths and that they are now recruited to fight aliens hiding on earth and if they do well they can get a second chance at life without interference of Gantz. Just don't die during a mission and all your wounds will be healed. Plus the custom fitting suits give you super human abilities. See it takes only a few seconds to explain. They even have time to have sex before the actual mission starts so plenty of time to go into details as well. A survivor could also just write down what they know and pass that piece of paper around amongst the newcomers. * Constant standing around doing nothing while people are being killed around them. Basically the same deal with pointing guns with no follow trough. * Long boring really really inappropriate dialogs discussing all kinds of stuff in the middle of a battle where the enemy basically just stops until they're ready to resume. * The lack of basic teamwork. They can't even manage to shoot at something together. * Total lack of explanation whether or not the aliens have actually done something that warrants their destruction. They all seem to be just minding their own business until they are attacked. * So lets say they are bad and that's why they are hiding on earth. Why the hell do they keep messing up opportunities? Like taking aliens out before they get dangerous. Like still refusing to put on the suit even after it got clear that it's really the best. p.s. What's up with the weapons delay!? With all the amazing tech it just makes no sense to equip your people with such disadvantage. And why the hell is there a delay anyhow?

When you wind up dramatic tension in a scene, it has to pay off, in either action or plot revelation. But it's possible to spend so long on the wind-up that no pay-off will be worth it, and all your get for the effort is viewer apathy. This series does this a lot.Every action is preceded with 5 minutes of internalizing the obvious, and followed with 5 minutes of predictable reaction. It's as if this was written to be accessible an audience too dense to grasp a situation within the first 30 frames -- an audience not mature enough for this level of graphic violence and sex in the first place. The illustration and sound were very fine, but not enough to make this less grueling to watch. But if you happen to be studying Japanese, this is pretty basic material to listen to, so it won't be a complete waste of your time. The characters aren't much for observation, or any thought that isn't self-involved and too rudimentary for the capacity for real self-consciousness.However, if you wanted to watch a pack of animal-order personalities get horribly mutilated -- no, forget that, they still don't die quick enough to sustain interest.

If you have seen the Saw movies then you should know what I'm talking about. This anime is like the devils spawn of them. A group of people( dead people) are transported to a room in an abandoned apartment minutes after their deaths. In the room is a black ball with a person in it. This is Gantz, and he's a sadistic bastard.Cue the mind rapes and psychological trauma among other things. You have just walked into hell trust me. You can return back to the real world but there's a catch. Gantz likes to play, and the game he likes to play can cost you your life. The game is simple. It's seek and destroy. If you're alive after the time limit is up you get to go home fully restored. You die you stay dead. However, your life belongs to Gantz and he can, and will, call you back to the game whenever he feels like it.Oh yea gantz doesn't explain the rules to you. On purpose. If you break his rules, that he doesn't tell you about in the first place, then let's just say seeing you in any more episodes becomes slim(er). What exactly is Gantz, and w.t.f. does he want no ones knows. The anime never explains it and I'm not sure if the manga does either. This anime is full of nudity, sex, violence, and gore. Oh god the violence and gore. It's definitely M or even AO material.Pros- Everybody can die and god damn they can die horribly. No one has plot armor. If you are transported into Gantz's game, no matter if you have main character stamped to you, you can die as easily as everybody else. I like this because it's realistic. No one likes an immune hero. Its gets boring when you know no matter how many limbs, and blood they lose they will survive over and over. Looks at you Bleach. However, the one bad thing about this is it's easy to get attached to the characters, well some of them anyway, but since everybody can die it's a good chance you'll not be seeing them alive for much longer.Dialouge- Most of it was so good. So realistic. I laughed at quite a few bits even in a sadistic, dark anime like this. However, there were some bad nuggets.Visuals- the people looked real. You can actually imagine them in everyday life.Voice acting- I don't see why a lot of people hated the voice acting. I quite liked it. The voices for each character suited them.Music- creepy and fits the scenes. Love the intro music.Cons- This anime is not particular nice to female characters. The main character is likable in a jerkass with a heart of gold kinda way, and I use the heart of gold part lightly. However, he is sex crazy.EVERYTHING regarding sex in this anime is a direct result of his antics.I know its part of his personalty, and him being male unfortunately, but they could have toned it down a bit.The to dumb to live idiot ball gets passed around a lot.Characters take their sweet time trying to kill the things that are trying to kill them. I understand being passive but this is going overboard. Way to much naive idealistic talking goes on as well. What makes the idiot ball even more profound is that gantz, the sadistic chess-master, sends them to kill things that weren't bothering anyone in the first place. So if they had just left well enough along until time ran out then well what might have been...Gantz cheats. A lot. To the point that even getting half of the people to come back alive is nearly impossible.
