View MoreIn my opinion (and before anybody bites my head off it's just my opinion and not an objective fact), The Simpsons was a much better show, both because the comedy was more relatable to typical North American suburbia life, and because no matter what went down, humour or violence or adventure or mayhem, at the end of the day ultimately the Simpson Family love each other and learn to excel in their own dysfunction. Futurama is undoubtedly imaginative and well-animated; in the same cartoon style as The Simpsons, it follows an underachieving delivery boy, Fry, whose life at the dawn of the Millennium (1999) goes unnoticed and unappreciated by everybody around him. A mishap whisks him far into the future, a future city to be exact which is a technological marvel where aliens are commonplace and teleportation is as typical as the air we breathe - and Fry discovers a place where perhaps he truly belongs and fits in. Other characters include tough purple-haired cyclops-like Leela, wisecracking, crass and cynical robot Bender, elderly but brilliant scientist Cubert Farnsworth, and Amy, who comes from a wealthy family, just to name a few.Although Futurama offers a universe as widely developed as Springfield if not even more-so, its sci-fi plot is so predictable after a few seasons that I just stopped caring. Like Dr. Who, what started off as brilliant quickly became repetitive and geeky, and Futurama also became one of those unfortunate examples of a cartoon that stoops to using crude humour as a crutch. I mean look, I'm not six years old, I can take a few sex jokes and fart noises, but it's lazy and without any purpose, and just makes the show itself appear sloppy. Futurama also began suffering from numerous obvious tropes and eventually just stopped being interesting to me. I know I keep making a lot of comparisons with The Simpsons, but The Simpsons to me was always unpredictable, witty and more character-driven, even in its dismal more recent seasons. Futurama just tries way too hard sometimes, and I think it hides behind the flashy screen of science fiction and low-brow comedy to mask that beneath all that, there's really not much substance or emotion. To be fair though, there are some truly unforgettable, touching and hilarious scenes in Futurama, as well as mysteries in the past lives of the main characters, making it definitely worth watching just to see how everything unfolds. And unlike Rick & Morty, Futurama doesn't put up a pseudo-intellectual nihilism smokescreen or try to find comedy in rape or paedophilia. The great thing about Matt Groening's work is that it pushes boundaries, sometimes even grosses out or offends, but it always knows where to draw the line and how to execute a good joke, reference or gag without seeking out bad shock value.
... View MoreThis is the first adult cartoon I've consistently watched. Sure, I've seen a few episodes of "Family Guy" and "the Simpsons", but I never got into them, that and my parents wouldn't allow me to watch those. Now that I'm older, I decided to watch "Futurama" after hearing a ton of praise for the show. And it deserves every bit of it. The main purpose of shows like "South Park" and "Family Guy" is to make you laugh, "Futurama" does that but it also does so much more. This show makes you think about mortality, relationships, and religion. It can also makes you cry. Try watching "Jurassic Bark", "Luck of the Fryirsh", and "Lethal Inspection" without shedding a tear. I'm kind of sad the show got canceled yet again, because I've just recently started watching it, but at least it had the dignity to end. I'm looking' at you, "Simpsons". If you're old enough to watch adult cartoons (which if you're reading this, I assume you are), go check this show out, you won't regret it.
... View MoreThis show is just pure excellence. It has the same type of humour as Simpsons but without all the dull morale police, "celebrity" guests etc...If you have not watched Futurama, I would describe it as: Imagine Simpsons, where everyone but Lisa (who is the main drawback to Simpsons) goes into a time machine and travels 1000 years into the future and they all change characters and appearances and live on a spaceship instead of a town. This give the authors a completely different freedom to implement their humour and it most certainly works. A typical show of Futurama is more or less 100% humour time (so in that aspect more like Family Guy than Simpsons) compared to Simpsons which nowadays tend to be 50% humour, 20% drama, 20% morale police and 10% celebrity guest stars/ references that adds little or nothing to the show.My favourite character is Dr Zoidberg :)
... View MoreFuturama is an outstanding television series that is extremely well written and developed, with an absolutely stellar voice cast.I have my doubts that any one reading this hasn't watched it yet,but if you haven't then I would highly recommend you start. It is from the same people who brought you the Simpsons, but it is very different, the humour is quite similar but the characters and the concept is certainly not similar.I grew up watching this show as a child,Fry,Bender,Leela and the rest of the gang are like family members to me and it would go high up on my list of favourite animated series. The show has been cancelled before and I'm sad to see it leave again, they had such a wide variety of fantastic episodes, ones that are hilarious, and even emotional,it can be very versatile. The final episode dosen't end in a way that it has to be the final time we ever see these characters,I could easily imagine the show coming back,or at least doing a movie to finish it off once and for all,I just hope to see the Planet Express crew again soon.A classic series that kids and adults will love,I would highly recommend Futurama to anyone looking for a good comedy or animated series. Phillip J. Fry is accidentally frozen in 1999 on New Years Eve and wakes up in the year 3000,where he starts working with a delivery company run by a crazy professor, where he works with a robot, cyclops, talking lobster and others as they are sent on many adventures. Best Episode: The Late Phillip J. Fry Worst Episode: The Honking
