Brilliant and touching
... View MoreA lot of fun.
... View MoreA Disappointing Continuation
... View MoreThere's a more than satisfactory amount of boom-boom in the movie's trim running time.
... View MoreWe much more enjoyed the seasons staring Nancy Carroll as Lady Felicia and Tom Chambers. The character of Bunty is rather uninteresting and one dimensional, and Inspector Mallory is a stereotypical idiot. Also, the character of Syd is much missed in storylines, as well. Although Father Brown is, all in all, good entertainment, I do miss the earlier seasons.
... View MoreI borrowed Season 1 at no cost from my local library, and I have to say it was worth every penny I paid. I shall not even pay that much to watch the rest.Even if you have not the faintest idea what the books were like, or what the theology and moral principles of their author may have been, the series is bound to disappoint. I am actually shocked that an actor of the calibre of Mark Williams would have assented to participate in this ridiculous and totally unbelievable piece of PC rubbish. If the BBC had at least remained true to the good nature of Chesterton's work, it might have redeemed the travesty somewhat. But spooky music, low budget horror movie darkness, and equally dark plot twists turn the fun frolic of the original concept into just one more pathetic Conan-Doyle imitation. I kept expecting Peter Cushing or Lon Cheney Jr to appear in the next scene.I won't dwell on egregious faults like the City of Birmingham ambulance responding to an injury in the Cotswolds, the misplaced (Midlands or Home Counties) accents of the locals, or the permanent cast of Soap Opera supporting roles. Things like those are just the scum on the top of the foetid pond.Give it a miss.
... View MoreThis is by far my favorite series....even better than Downtown Abbey. Mark Williams and Sorcha Cusack as Father Brown and Mrs. McCarthy are amazing actors. We need more shows like this in the world. I really hope there will be a Season 6. I miss Sid and Felica; but the casting is still excellent and the story lines are incredible....very well written.
... View MoreThis show is such a contrast to all the procedurals we seem stuck with in American TV mysteries. I find Father Brown's kindness and compassion one of the most endearing things about it. He's not just another sleuth that sticks his nose in where the police don't want him. He's one that is after saving the lost souls - even the killers. The way Father Brown treats everyone as redeemable gives the show a unique and refreshing twist. The rest of the cast makes a great dynamic and none of them are indispensable. The police being rude can get old at times, I'll admit.
