After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.

It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny

Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

I have just recently finished watching Atlantis and really enjoyed it. While Season 1 wasn't amazing, Season 2 was absolutely incredible!I recently became aware of the show and started watching it because I'm a big fan of fantasy shows (which there are not nearly enough of on TV), and because I was interested to see what they would do with the legend of Atlantis after doing pretty well with Merlin. Season 1, as mentioned in other reviews, is a little slow, cheesy/cringe worthy at times, and the writing/acting could be improved in parts. It was still enjoyable to watch to escape reality for a bit, and I felt it had a lot of potential - but it became a show I watched more when I wanted that TV escape for 40min without being addicted and feeling like I needed to watch more. Knowing it had been canceled before starting to watch it, at that stage, I though I understood why (particularly when compared to season 1 of Merlin - its predecessor). But Season 2 completely changed that! I think I watched season two in 3 days, I got so hooked on the story line and characters. At the end of season 1, I could see the start of where the show could go, and the show's directors/producers/writers did a fantastic job at building on it. Atlantis became an actual fantasy drama in season 2 - the plot was substantially better, as was the acting and writing, the characters all gained a lot more depth, and the themes the show explored were much more interesting. Overall it became very addicting, and I'm devastated that it was canceled, before the show could continue to grow in season 3 (or even that they couldn't film just a few more episodes to tie up some of the story lines they had done such a fantastic job at building!)For anyone considering watching this, if you are struggling with the first season, don't give up on it! If needed, skip to the last two episodes of season 1 and start from there. If you are looking for a solid and addicting fantasy drama, season 2 of Atlantis is well and truly worth watching!

I have watched Merlin, Robin Hood, and several of the other shows that people have listed and compared this show to, including all of the Spartacus series. If that was what you were looking for this show isn't for you.If you enjoy mystical imaginary thinking you'll love this show. It had witty banter from Hercules and an all around good story line. For those of you who judged this show on the first or even second episode, you guys should never be critics. Season 3 would've been great with the developing storyline. I'm still hoping they bring the show back. For all of the haters, you guys sound like a bunch of failed actors. Just saying. This show was heading into a great direction up until it's cancellation, which was a complete fail by BBC. ****BRING IT BACK BBC****

Actually I did not realize that this series was meant to replace Merlin until I read the other reviews.Which is a shame because MERLIN was one of the best series I have ever seen and this is a far cry.The opener was rock-solid. The rest of the series, not so much.At first glance, the casting of Addy as Hercules makes you wonder if even the writers had given up, long before they even started...? But watching the entire series, you see that Addy is the best thing in it. When the drama lapses, which is much too often, his wonderful comic timing sort of keeps things hopping. He literally picks up the entire series and carries it on his back -- like Hercules! To students of ancient mysteries, recent finds in Turkey and Bosnia (also some off the coast of Japan) have pushed the actual dates of advanced civilization back over 10,000 years -- Google this yourself. At a time when, until recently, our betters in the scientific community were telling us that man lived in caves and could barely talk. So, to me, the notion of Atlantis deserved a heck of a lot better than this. For those curious, the novel by Warren Murphy and wife remains the definitive Atlantis adventure. This series is just a light appetizer.
