All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

Live from East Rutherford, NJAttendance 20,000Your commentators are Tony Schiavone & Jesse VenturaThe Hart Foundation Vs The Brain Busters The Brain Busters win. Really good opener. Just good old-fashioned, classic tag-team wrestling. Started off a little slow...but picked up to become a lot of fun.Dusty Rhodes Vs The Honky Tonk ManDusty wins win Jimmy Hart accidentally nails Honky with the guitar. Not very good at all. Pretty mediocre and dull. The crowd LOVED Dusty though.Mr. Perfect Vs The Red RoosterMr. Perfect wins with the Perfect-Plex pretty easily. This was a glorified squash match and it didn't last very long. The Rockers & Tito Santana Vs The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers & "The Model" Rick MartelMartel and The Rougeau's win. This was another really fun match on this card. You had 6 really good performers in this match so it was pretty hard to screw that up. Still...quite fun.Intercontinental Title"Ravishing" Rick Rude (C) Vs The Ultimate WarriorThe Warrior wins the title, thanks to Roddy Piper. Solid match overall. Nothing spectacular...but the storytelling was good and it had plenty of action. Crowd was rabid for everything, which also helped.A bunch of interviews with Mr. Perfect, Roddy Piper, Ronnie Garvin, Bobby Heenan & Rick Rude take place.Demolition & "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan Vs The Twin Towers & Andre The GiantDemolition and Duggan win after Duggan uses the 2 x 4. Pretty terrible...but also fun at the same time if that makes sense. The antics from the faces were kinda fun.Hercules Vs Greg "The Hammer" ValentineRonnie Garvin is the guest ring announcer. Valentine gets the pin with his foot on the ropes...but Garvin announces Hercules as the winner. This was very weird and kinda pointless overall.Ted Dibiase Vs Jimmy SnukaDibiase wins by countout. Pretty decent stuff from these two. It was kinda meaningless and I don't see why Dibiase couldn't get a clean win here. Snuka was here to put over talent at this juncture.Hulk Hogan & Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake Vs "Macho Man" Randy Savage & ZeusHogan and Beefcake win after Hogan pins Zeus. Meh. It was an average main-event. Zeus was such a silly character and had no business main-eventing a PPV. He was just fodder for Hogan. It started off well...but it's a tad inconsistent for me to praise it too highly, definitely watchable and definitely worth a watch, though.6/10

*SPOILERS*This one had only one good singles match, The Ultimate Warrior vs. Rick Rude. Warrior was not a wrestler by any stretch of the imagination, but he always had excellent matches against Rude. The opening tag team match was about as good as they get. The Hart Foundation got cheated out of yet another SummerSlam win against the Brain Busters, but they probably could have gotten away with letting Tully and Arn win cleanly. But why weren't the titles on the line? I can't figure out any reason for this.I liked both of the six-man matches. Duggan, Demolition, Akeem, Andre, and Bossman in the same match is just fun to think about. And Duggan had the time of his life teaming with Ax and Smash. The other six-man match was incredibly good, but it would have worked better had the Rockers fought the Rougeaus and Martel faced Tito one on one. Although the Rockers would eventually dominate their feud with the Rougeaus, Jacques and Ray got the high-profile win at SummerSlam.Tiny Lister sure was a good sport with his Zeus gimmick. He's a serious actor, and this would be embarrassing to most actors. And I'm glad Brutus Beefcake got to be in the main event. This almost made up for the fact that he was cheated out of a title shot at the previous and next SummerSlam.Good show, worth a look. Honestly, you might want to fast-forward through the singles matches.

He was the most powerful force in the universe, and the key to Randy `Macho Man' Savage's plan to destroy his bitter enemy, Hulk Hogan. His name was Zeus, a mountain of a man standing at nearly 7 feet and weighing around 300 pounds of solid muscle. Savage recruited Zeus in an effort to take down Hogan, who with his ally, Brutus `The Barber' Beefcake, battled Savage and Zeus in a tag team match to headline SummerSlam 1989. In the end, Hulkamania triumphed again when Hogan bodyslammed Zeus and hit the legdrop for the win! For the second year in a row, the Ultimate Warrior made history at SummerSlam by capturing his second Intercontinental Championship. Warrior defeated `Ravishing' Rick Rude, who five months earlier defeated Warrior for the title at WrestleMania V. The win would eventually lead to Warrior's epic title-for-title confrontation with Hogan at WrestleMania VI.SummerSlam 1989 The Brain Busters defeated the Hart Foundation Dusty Rhodes pinned the Honky Tonk Man Mr. Perfect pinned the Red Rooster The Rougeaus & Rick Martel defeated the Rockers & Tito Santana The Ultimate Warrior pinned Rick Rude to win the Intercontinental Title Demolition & "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan defeated Andre the Giant & the Twin Towers Hercules defeated Greg "the Hammer" Valentine by DQ Ted DiBiase defeated "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka by countout Hulk Hogan & Brutus Beefcake defeated Randy Savage & ZeusOverall Mark: C+

The original SummerSlam was superb. The second annual SummerSlam was also superb.Back in 1989 all the WWF stars put on good matches even though some of them had limited abilities. The WWF of 1989 had many varieties of wrestler-high flying wrestlers, technical wrestlers, brawlers etc. There are great matches throughout this card. There are two that really stand out. The Ultimate Warrior has an awesome match with the late Ravishing Rick Rude. This bout even topped their fantastic match from WrestleMania V.(SPOILER AHEAD)The main event pitted Hulk Hogan and his best buddy Brutus Beefcake against dastardly heels Randy Savage and the seemingly unstoppable Zeus. It was great to see Hogan and the power of Hulkamania overcome the 'invincible' Zeus.
