Absolutely the worst movie.

The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.

Sexual being Vera Barrie (Neve Campbell) is hired by African studies Professor Hassan Al-Ibrahim Ben Rabinowitz (James Toback) as his assistant. Hustler Ford Welles (Frederick Weller) is working for wealthy Italian Count Tommaso Lupo (Dominic Chianese). He convinces sex partner Vera to spend time with the count for $100k.I remember the main selling point for this was Neve getting naked. With the recent revelations about James Toback, it's impossible to separate the man from his work. Luckily, his work here isn't good and I'm not conflicted about crapping on this. I only feel bad for Neve Campbell. She was obviously trying to do an art indie as she searched for her place in Hollywood. The other notable is a cameo from pre-tattoo Mike Tyson. It may be one of his last appearance before his tattoo. All the cameo starting with Toback himself are disconnected. They make this guerrilla indie fractured like a student film. The central premise holds some problems mainly with the money. Surely, Vera would want a 50/50 split before the meeting. After getting paid, she could try to buy him off. The conflict could still happen after he finds out the secret but in a different way. The money part lacks credibility. Sadly, Neve's nudity is all that's left. Through it all, she somehow maintains her dignity which is far more than can be hoped for. Toback probably spent more time lining up cameo rather than writing a compelling script. Toback is unable to advance beyond his sad experience.

I watched this film after first watching "The Outsider" (2005) which is a documentary that follows the director, James Toback, during the shooting of this film. This movie is an interesting and artfully done study of sexual explorations by several interrelated characters. It does not follow the traditional formula of mainstream movies, which is one of the reasons I liked it. It was especially fulfilling to watch this film having just viewed the documentary that delved into the objectives of the director in making this movie, the feelings of the cast before and during filming, commentaries on Toback's style and techniques from other directors and actors with whom Toback has worked, and the challenges associated with shooting the entire film in 12 days.

The first 40 minutes of this was absolute crap. I was thinking to myself "How could Ebert have given this 4 stars?" But the second 40 minutes was like a complete 180. The greatness started with the meeting of Neve and the Italian guy. From then on I couldn't get enough of it. It kind of reminded me of her other film, Wild Things. But man, she was phenomenal in the second half. .I also very much admired the cinematography and art direction. The classical music playing in the background really bothered me though. It was annoying and didn't match the rest of the film.See it for the amazing second half, just skip the first 40 minutes. Campbell's at her best; 7.

*****SPOILERS***** "The ending of the movie where it freezes when Vera(Neve) looks at herself in the mirror FREAKS ME OUT TO THIS DAY." (No, its not the same image you see on the Poster art.) Well, I will start off by saying that I liked this movie. Why? most people would talk about this movie and say: "why would these characters do these things" or "its random sequence garbage." People who say these things don't understand that this is a movie and movies are fictional......Just pop in the DVD and enjoy the ride, dammit.Well, the dialog between Vera(Neve) and the Count(Chianese) is really smart and dramatic, and leads to the sex scene Very well. Ford's(Weller) dialog throughout the movie is unbelievably funny and true(what he would do for money or revenge). The ending of the movie where it freezes when Vera looks at herself in the mirror FREAKS ME OUT TO THIS MINUTE.OK fine, this movie isn't perfect, the music often instantly cuts between rap songs to classical music, and it gets annoying. The events in the movie may seem messy.I mean, if you subscribe to netflix or something BY ALL MEANS RENT THIS MOVIE, you have nothing really to lose.Did I mention there are some good sex scenes in here too? 4 Stars ****
