It's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.

A man watches tapes of some woman who killed her husband and son. Now he starts seeings things and ghosts are chasing him and cause him to have an accident. He barely survives. When he wakes up, he seems different to his son. His wife eventually starts noticing he's different.Turns out the guy makes miniature toys and he's made a large toy mansion for his son. One night a light goes on inside a room of the toy mansion and a mini kid starts talking to the son. They become friends. The mini ghost tells the kid how he can enter the toy mansion and the kid does it. It's creepy inside and he finds his dad behind a locked door. Now things start getting weird for the mother. A relative lives with the family and she drives to the real life mansion that looks just like the toy one. She goes inside. Ghosts cause her to fall down the stairs and die. It takes days until the family notices. We in the meantime, see episodes from decades ago where family members kill themselves and some ghosts jump out of them which look like younger version of themselves. We also learn that this has been going on for a long time and through the generations. The mother, worried about her son and husband, visits one of these woman who killed her husband and son. She presumably tells her how to get her family back and put an end to whatever is going on.As a Mexican horror movie, Visitantes, delivers the expected: a large creepy mansion, ghosts, piano music, confident direction, dark monotone visuals, excellent sound production, a somewhat attractive but uncharismatic female lead, some historic background, a slow pointless story, and a moronic ending. The movie doesn't disappoint in any of these. The story is terrible, nothing is meant to make sense. We aren't given any reason to care about any of these people. The movie is longer than it needs to be and feels even longer. Initially there are some jump-out-of-your-seat moments but then it just languishes. There's nothing particularly scary or frightening; there is no tension whatsoever. The ghosts are lame. But there is one very cool scene of a J-horror type girl/thing developing out of a bathtub. Other than that I cannot recommend this movie to anyone. It's a puzzle to me that the sophisticated Mexican film industry can't come up with a single decent horror movie.
