That was an excellent one.

After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

I liked the film - the build up was good and the twist was interesting. However, one thing I cannot stand is where someone is in a fight with someone else and a third person just stands there, mouth open, doing absolutely nothing. This is what happens when David has the fight in the kitchen and his wife just stands there and does nothing to help him - especially when she already knows what will happen from her previous visions. People like this deserve to die because they are not worthy of the gene pool.If that hadn't happened (and it need not have done - she could have been detained by fighting off the guy with the rifle) I would have given the film 9/10.

Eveleigh (Isla Fisher) and David Maddox (Anson Mount) get into a car wreck which killed a child in the other car. After Eveleigh's recovery, they move to a small town to reopen a vineyard. She's newly pregnant and befriends fellow pregnant Sadie (Gillian Jacobs). Eveleigh has visions and investigates suspicious local happenings.Blumhouse is killing it producing small lower-budget horrors and once in awhile, hits one over the fence. This is not one of those home runs. This is Rosemary's Baby without its artistry or originality. The reveal is obvious from the start. The movie hits that dead child note so awkwardly loud that it is impossible not to come back. Overall, this has a little creepy vibe but nothing that scary. The jump scares don't scare. I like everybody here but they're not pushing any boundaries. This horror is mostly flat.

It is a common thing for horror movies to boost the sound up when the 'scary bits' occur, but Jesus Christ these guys took it to a really uncomfortable extreme. My ears literally hurt at times because it was so loud, and I didn't even have the volume up very high... You can't with this one because it literally boosts the volume up to 300% in the jump scares as opposed to the normal volume. It was impossible to not hold my hand on the remote and turn it down when things seemed like they were about to get 'scary' which of course made me not being able to get into the movie all that much.If you set the level on a comfortable level for the loud 'scary parts' it was almost impossible to hear what anyone was saying in the 'non scary parts' so that was immensely annoying.Newsflash Hollywood; if the only way you can make a scene scary is if you have to crank the volume up to twice as high in the scares (or as in this case more) then you failed at making a truly scary scene and should consider doing something else.As far as the rest of the movie goes I've seen worse, it's hard to give a fair rating because the sound-mixing ruined the first 50 minutes for me and it wasn't until the last 25 when the sound got more stable that I was able to sort of enjoy it for what it was. With a better soundmix it could probably have been a 4/10 or a 5/10 movie I reckon so still nothing amazing, we've seen it all before really, Isla's rack was a winner though.

Like probably every other person who watched this movie, I did so due to the strong cast it boasted. If this movie consisted of a list of unknowns, I very much doubt many people would even give it a chance at all.I've always been a big fan of Isla Fishers, but sadly this movie shows she has definite limitations. Horror/thriller movies are just not for her. She comes across completely false in her role, which should have had multiple layers and had the possibility of showcasing her acting talent. Instead it illustrated her discomfort within the world of serious acting. In chick-flicks and nice romantic comedies, Isla is perfect, but when a role calls for something a bit more than 1 dimensional, she struggles and becomes insanely irritating. Jim Parsons seems unable to rid himself of the shackles that is Sheldon Cooper. Will he ever be rid of that role? This movie contains pretty much every stereotype that a film fan could expect. Even if you have never watched this movie before, you will know exactly where it's going. I have to say I rate this one as quite poor. It didn't scare me, make me jump, surprise me or immerse me. I was actually looking forward to the ending, which is never a good sign.I would advise to avoid.
