... View MoreVery interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.
... View MoreWatch something else. There are very few redeeming qualities to this film.
... View MoreI suppose those who love their guns to the detriment of all other concerns will have quickly given this movie a one-star rating while those who who view our fascination with guns as a sickness to our collective soul will give it ten.I don't know if this counts as a spoiler or not, but the movie is at its best when it portrays the deep grief of those who have lost someone they loved to gun violence in contrast to the rabble-rousing from the NRA as it stokes the furnace of fear it uses to keep its power. In the end, that's where we arrive--at a nation in emotional turmoil between those of us who grieve and those of us who fear. It doesn't speak well of us that its fear that appears to be winning. It's been almost seventeen hours since I saw the film Still disturbing is the surveillance footage from the cameras in the lobby at the theater in Aurora, Colorado. Though out of sight, one hears the popping of gunfire from one of the auditoriums. To understand the result of the noise is to grieve for both the immediate victims there and all of those that will follow as we remain a nation ensnared in the grip of madness. It would be nice to know what future generations will think when they see this movie. Let's hope they've achieved an intelligence and enlightenment that allows them to view us with the scorn we deserve. What a terrible legacy we leave them.At the start of this review I wrote that it's assumed that those who love their guns would give the movie a one-star rating while those who saw it as a film revealing a sickness in our collective soul would give it ten stars. I belong with the latter.
... View MoreRead up on the biased liberal slant on this 'movie'. It poses as a 'documentary' but is anything but factual and balanced.Typical opinion piece masquerading as a true factual doc. Even the producer/director admits editing to bias the reporting.Even IMDb says, "there was a pause edited into the movie following pro-gun enthusiasts being asked a question on background checks. The producers claimed it was for 'dramatic effect' but in reality the pro-gun enthusiasts responded almost immediately. This led many to question the film and Katie Couric's integrity." Couric is a far left winger and this goes down as 2nd only to Al Gore's pathetic 'documentary' on global warming.
... View MoreAfter this month's horrific murder in Orlando, and after marching Sunday with Moms Demand Action at the SF Pride Parade, and after calling politicians during the government sit-in last week, I knew I had to learn more about the stranglehold the NRA has placed on our government I just got off the couch from watching Katie Couric's newly released documentary (free on EPIX which Comcast doesn't offer I streamed for $0.99 on Amazon). I took a huge number of notes on all the atrocities I learned, which I know I'll need as ammunition for future gun battles ahead. (PUBLIC DISCLAIMER; I don't believe in taking anyone's guns away. I think that it should be harder to shoot a gun than to drive a car and believe in closing the terrorist watch list loophole.) I learned a ton with this less-than-2 hour documentary, and strongly recommend it to the members of Moms Demand Action/Everytown Against Gun Violence/the Brady Campaign and others interested in reducing gun violence – or learning why America is having such a hard time doing so. Yes I know there was one edit made unfairly for "the other side"... bottom line, this shares a lot of truths about why America can't change gun laws. If moms can lobby the automobile industry for safer cars and car seats - and win - then moms can do so with the NRA for gun safety and less gun violence. #Enough #DisarmHate
... View MoreAccording to an article by David Hookstad writing for The Daily CallerNewly surface audio revealed that a Katie Couric-hosted documentary, called "Under the Gun," intentionally edited video to make pro-gun Americans appear dumbfounded. In the clip, Couric asks a group of pro-gun individuals from the Virginia Citizens Defense League, "If there are no background checks for gun purchasers, how do you prevent felons or terrorists from purchasing a gun?" In the film, the pro-gun group appears to be stunned into silence, with no apparent answer to the question. But a separate audio recording of the conversation reveals that the group responded quickly, and hit Couric back with nearly 4 minutes of thoughts on the subject. Virginia Citizens Defense League president Philip Van Cleave told The Washington Free Beacon, "Katie Couric asked a key question during an interview of some members of our organization. She then intentionally removed their answers and spliced in nine seconds of some prior video of our members sitting quietly and not responding. Viewers are left with the misunderstanding that the members had no answer to her question.
