Tool: Salival Trailers

Salival is a limited edition box set in CD/VHS and CD/DVD formats released in 2000 by Tool. It includes a 56-page book of photos and stills from their music videos. As the box set has now been out of print for some time, it can only be found secondhand, usually at a price disproportionate to its original recommended retail price. As VHS has now become all but obsolete, the DVD version tends to retail for a higher price as it is in higher demand.

This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.

No self respecting TOOL fan would be without this in his/her collection... Even though he/she already has all the videos bootlegged anyway.^^^ BTW. It's "Opiate" not "Opium" (no self respecting TOOl fan would make that mistake either) And speaking of Opiate... There's a hidden feature on the DVD. At the main menu there are the small hands in the corner of the screen. Pay attention to those icons for a hint on which one to press to watch TOOLS first video ever. "HUSH" (the first words in HUSH lyrics are "fu@k You!") DVD only... you VHS owners are just SOL.

With the possible exception of their first, "Hush", all of Tool's subsequent videos have raised the bar for artistic direction and creative visualization in the dwindling genre of music videos. This purchase is highly recommended for Tool fans, regardless of whether or not they've seen these videos before. Besides an aggravating DVD interface (which is to be expected from the likes of the band), the only down point of this video/CD set is that it no longer includes all of the band's videos, but they can be downloaded via the internet.Surprisingly beautiful images arise from this collection of otherwise macabre videos. Recommended.

I am a big fan of the style that Tool has employed in their music videos. The stop motion has progressively evolved and grown more creative with each new album. This along with the awesome cinematography and special effects makes for a good medium for their music. Of course, there is also the way that the visual art ties very closely into the lyrical and musical depth. These are wrapped up in a very presentable package and, with the DVD, a very sweet interface.

Salival is the collection of TOOL's work from 1991-2000.Five videos including Hush, Skinkfist, Prison Sex, Sober and Aenima, it is a must get just because you simply see the evolution of metal and art before your eyes, you can capture 10 years of hard work and inspiration. Adam Jones the director of most of the videos is an admirer of the famous director jan Svankmajer and the Brothers Quay, he takes what they do best and puts his image and perception on it and just turns it from film to brilliant astonishing work. EVEN if you aren't a film buff, get this just because of the music, they are an awesome band, best out there.
