Truly Dreadful Film
... View MoreFar from Perfect, Far from Terrible
... View MoreJust intense enough to provide a much-needed diversion, just lightweight enough to make you forget about it soon after it’s over. It’s not exactly “good,” per se, but it does what it sets out to do in terms of putting us on edge, which makes it … successful?

... View MoreThis is a UPA one shot cartoon. There will be mild spoilers ahead: UPA made quite a few very good to excellent shorts, but like every studio, they also made cartoons best described as "Done to fulfill contractual obligations". This short is one of those place fillers. It's a very simple story simply told. There's really nothing special to this one. It follows a simple formula-a narrator telling a highly improbable tall tail to a skeptical listener who ultimately discovers that the tale is true.Such cartoons can rise above the average of there's something special about them, but there isn't anything special about this one. The narrator is a fairly nondescript soul, a janitor of no special nature. He isn't a colorful character. He's a prop designed to show off the boxing gloves. The story itself is rather average and predictable. The animation is decent if limited, but again it's nothing noteworthy. It's an enjoyable seven minutes with its share of laughs. This short is available on a three disc box set of UPA Jolly Frolics shorts. The box set itself is excellent and the short is worth watching. Recommended.
