Aleksey is an ordinary young man living in Russia during the 1990s. Like most of his contemporaries, he is looking for a way to survive. The easiest way is the way of crime. He joins a gang. Fortunately, his fate takes a sudden turn and he manages to find the right path. The film also addresses global terrorism, one of the most important and painful issues of today's world. The main characters of the film, together with their American colleagues, take part in a special operation to destroy a band of international terrorists and drug traffickers.

This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

It is interesting even when nothing much happens, which is for most of its 3-hour running time. Read full review

Quite nice Russian movie. Well sort of a parody of an American action movies, but nevertheless better than average. What bugged me during the movie, is the constant background music. During almost the whole action scenes, as well as dialogs. Pretty strange. Like a musical video of a good band performing. What I did like, was the idea, the philosophical aspect, and a short glimpse of the Russian "post - perestroika" patriotism. The main character is nice and the battle scenes. But again - the music. There was not a single moment when I didn't want it to stop. All the tension was gone, and instead of feeling sympathy for the characters, was feeling quite like watching 3D animated, when you don't really give a damn about the plot, you just having fun watching it.
