TrueHello

Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.

While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.

I bought this movie a while back while I was on a quest to find the crappiest horror movie... It's indeed crappy but not nearly as much as I tought it would be. I was maybe a bit generous giving it a 6 but still it was an half way decent no-budget movie that doesn't take itself seriously with a very funny ending... I admit, the acting was poor (on purpose maybe) and the story line made little sense (again on purpose maybe I wonder)... BUT if you go into it without any expectations and are able to enjoy ''the no-budget spoof of a spoof made by a bunch of friends'' type of movie you'll surely find something to enjoy in that joke of a film.

"The Slaughter" is an absolute blast of a horror film and is a ton of fun.**SPOILERS**Going out to the country, friends Dana, (Jessica Custodio) Iggy, (Zak Kilberg) Tyler, (Terry Erioski) Brandon, (Travis Wood) Heather, (Laura Bach) and Razz, (Billy Beck) arrive at a long-abandoned house to clean it up after years of disuse. When their client, Carl Stevens, (Brad Milne) and Alexandra, (Jen Alex Gonzalez) arrive to instruct them on their task, they go about cleaning up the house only to stumble across a strange book that appears as a summons for a She-Demon, (Adriana Esquivel) from another dimension to enter into the world. Accidentally performing the ritual necessary to bring the creature to life, it unleashes a torrent of death and evil upon them as it tries to complete it's quest of having an army of the dead to conquer the world, forcing them into a war to stop it from finishing it's plans. The Good News: This was a really fun and enjoyable entry. One of the things about it is the film's really fun atmosphere that practically drips with enjoyment. The ending of this is the best part, since this is the best part of the film. With the zombies thrown into the mix with the supernatural demon taking center-stage, there's some fun suspense to be had from the chases through the house, which has a lot to work from since there's literally no stopping them. They just keep going, and it makes the entire segment non-stop and exhilarating. With a series of rather great confrontations in here, from the kitchen encounter with the zombie to the rather furious and creepy battle in the attic, they're all quite great and just make this one absolutely fun. Even the small things, from the great look of the rotting zombies, all done to look like the way they were killed to how to handle the creatures, and even the small fact that it decides to throw in a series of quick-witted and completely logical quips about the situation work as well, since it's still a kept serious but the jokes and humor are expected in the situation and come off as natural and fun. The film even starts off on a high note, as a bunch of witches are shown eerily chanting in a wooded area, before disrobing and performing a bloody sacrifice that raises a nude, creepy-looking demon, and the whole thing is dirty, sleazy and a little creepy, which is always a great way to open a film like this. Then, to go into the flashback and it's eerie imagery of the ghostly hands emerging from the floors, ghost-like whispers and the flashing of the demon practically everywhere is great. All of these bookend the film with some great points, yet the rest of the film works wonders as well. The fact that the demon manages to work in plenty of creepy stuff, from the attack in the bathtub to the first instances of the demon coming free that contains some good stuff and the flashes of the ghost in the house, there's some nice suspense in here that creates a creepy, action-packed atmosphere at times that equals a lot of fun to be had in here. Even the location, from the dirty, dust-covered furniture works as well to help the atmosphere, and the dream sequence is just great. The nudity in here is also something nice to behold, as there's the topless romping from the witches at the beginning that lasts for a long time, the sex scene working nicely and the fact that the demon and zombies are shown to be nude or semi-nude manages to work wonders for this as well. The high-end gore is also really great, becoming incredibly messy and just plain graphic and gratuitous at times. There's a slit throat, a decapitation, crushing the head with a wooden board, being impaled through the leg with a clawed hand and pulled down into a trap, crushing the body at an odd angle and forcing the inner organs to be vomited back up, having a large chunk of face ripped off by a supernaturally-ripped rock, another is set on fire and another has their shoulder bitten into and ripped away, feasting on the torn flesh, among more. These here are part of the reasons for the gore in here, as there's a lot more and it's all quite fun. The last plus here is the rather fun story. The scene where it's all explained is rather nicely done, changing it away from the usual haunted house and instead going for a different, if fun route and making this one stay really enjoyable. These here are the film's good points. The Bad News: The few flaws in this one are really negligible and not that detrimental. The low-budget does work against it, since the kills are done through CGI and not really all that realistic-looking. The plot is entirely predictable and clichéd from the start, as everything in here can be predicted from a couple minutes before it happens and it takes a route that literally tons of other films have taken before it, leading to it not having a very feeling of originality to it. These here are all that really hurt this one, and they're hardly anything that will get this one down. The Final Verdict: One of the better films to come around, a ton of fun and features a lot that really helps it out, while the flaws are negligible. Really give this a shot if you're into the more sleazier side of the genre or in the mood for low-budget entertainment, but those interested in big-budgets only should heed caution or ignore.Rated R: Graphic Violence, Graphic Language, Full Nudity, drug use and a sex scene

Now, I give this movie a 10 knowing full well that there are MUCH better-made movies out there. But for what it IS, and what it's trying to be... TEN easily.I saw this movie on Comcast OnDemand, and thought the plot sounded pretty interesting, so since I was bored, I checked it out. The opening scene I thought was amusingly stupid, and all the nudity was kinda surprising. Pretty interesting camera work in this scene, and I actually quite liked the style of it. Still, I NEARLY turned it off, but thank goodness I didn't. The second scene was much more serious, and offered some cheap scares. I could tell this movie was gonna be a B flick, and figured it not to be a very good one. Boy was I wrong. The teens start coming in and immediately the movie intrigues me. The acting is much better than I thought (though purposefully over the top), and the comic relief was golden. Here's some of the characters: There's a slutty chick who gets some cheap breast-shot thrills, and has a few funny parts. There's a "tough-guy" who turns out to be a total wimp who is just such a jerk yet has some brilliantly funny moments. There's a dorky anti-capitalism guy who is by far the golden nugget of the bunch, and has a brilliant script written in his favor. Then there's a totally serious chick who turns out to be pretty funny herself near the end. There are some brutally funny lines in the movie if you have a wide sense of humor.Anyways, back to the movie plot. There is a long time before you see anyone die, and then the movie just gets ridiculous... and I mean this in the BEST possible way. About the time when we see our first zombies... the movie switches gears and does not AT ALL take itself seriously. Just awesome. First 1/3=serious business, second 1/3, pretty funny, still kinda serious at times, last 1/3=golden comedy, no seriousness.Horror fans, there's some gory gruesome and original deaths--so unrealistic you'll laugh but enjoy it anyways (i.e. a rock hitting a guy in the face and ripping all of his face off?!). So the deaths are pretty suspenseful, the scares are cheap but occasionally work (loud noises + startling scary image = cheap scares, and comprises most of our horror films of today unfortunately). The humor is VERY sarcastic, parodies/rips on horror films (i.e. "Ok, let's stay together from now on... Let me go get my stuff and I'll meet up with you guys upstairs!"), has some downright cheap shots at the expense of the Bush administration (hysterical in a corny way), and then the humor that can only be described as complete disregard for the deadly situation they're in. I'm probably not doing this movie justice, but I laughed harder in this than in most comedies of today's day (which doesn't say all THAT much about it... but you know what I mean).WATCH THIS MOVIE! IT IS AWESOME FOR A "BAD" MOVIE!! VERY QUOTABLE, but I don't wanna ruin too many of the good lines for you guys. Don't listen to the bad reviews... those people people have a different sense of humor and I understand that. But realize that if you're like me and a lot of others, you'll find this movie to be hysterical. This movie is much funnier than Raimi's Evil Dead series, or Shaun of the Dead, and much more overall entertaining (and NOT because of the nudity). Whoever the main guy is in this movie should be in more movies cuz he's hilarious.PS The story is interesting too...

This movie is really something a group of 12 yr olds would film. Being a lover of horror movies, this movie actually shows me the meaning of "horrible". The acting is bad, the plot is worse.Everything is fine up to the part where the four people died of the four elements, Water, Fire, Air and Earth. None of these have any sense in them.Water - Heather only died when she was pulled under water the second time. How ridiculous is this? The demon is an ancient demon, bend on taking over the world with her evil sorcery powers, would she give anyone a second chance? Worse of all, on the second time when Heather was pulled in, she showed absolutely no emotions as the demon tugged at her leg. Amateur acting.Fire - If you people can remember, Tyler actually saw all the fuel rising to the roof of the basement. Anybody would have ran or back off after a few second, and what did he do? Continue staring till he got burnt. Really disgusting acting.Air - Brandon actually did better with his fear when he saw the demon, but its the plot that kills. Who would climb up a chute when a demon is screaming in front of you? The plot for this is terrible.Earth - While this guy is smoking his weed, he saw the demon and thought it was hallucination. That was OK until the demon disappeared into the ground. And he did what most movie does, looked real closed at the hole. When he stood up and got pulled by the hand, a close look reveals that he did not even struggle. He just try to shake the demon off. Its a demon for God Sake! Not a dog biting on his pants! They tried to pull off a Shaun Of The Dead comedy while tackling with the zombie of Carl. They can never succeed in that with their mediocre acting! If the actors and actresses are better ones, this scene would have been the highlight. This is one of the scenes that killed the movie.Lastly,Dana in the final "spell" room scene is extremely bad. How can one negotiate with a demon, while her friend(Iggy) is struggling to keep all the zombies out?! This is the plot's matter again, and if a good horror movie director have seen the script with this scene, he would have torn the papers to shreds. This movie would have gotten a single star from me if not for Iggy's explanation about the demon and its origin. A detailed explanation is needed for a movie on ancient demons and ghouls, and Iggy pulled it off. Other than that, this movie is simply not up to the standard.
