If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.

The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.

It's really really sad to see such a cheap propaganda in a shape of polygamic love story, trying to show at his weakest, poorest times, helpless Ottoman Empire like the Nazi Germany maybe even worse. The scenario is logically incorrect, consists piles of lies and unrealistic accusations. All of the characters in the movie are made up, none exists in history, events are unknown, without any proof or fact, basically fiction from evil lobbies. You know what they say: throw dirt enough, and some will stick... this is the main focus but it falls short.

At the beginning, Hunchakian Party was established in 1887 in Geneva and Dashnaktsutyun party was established 1890 in Tiflis and they began fight for independence against Ottoman Empire. It means that Armenian rebellion had begun fight against Ottoman empire before the WW1. In the movie all Armenian showed like civilian but it is not correct they were heavily armed by Russia and France because Russia wants take Caucasia from Ottoman by manipulating Armenian people and France wants to take Syria and south Anatolia. France which showed like a hero, manipulate Armenian rebellion against to Ottoman empire to. After all Russia got out of the battle because bolshevist revolution and make public their collusions which signed before the end of WW1. According to the collusions Russia will take Caucasia and France take south Anatolia and Syria after the war. What a coincidence the movie's story happening and France army helping Armenian people in south Anatolia cost which place after the war hold dawn after the war by France Cemal, Talat and Enver pashas who ruling the Ottoman empire during WW1 made a lot of horrible mistake for instance On Allahuekber mountain 60.000 ottoman soldiers were frozen to death because wrong decision of Enver pasha and when the war began ottoman was about 2,5 million square meters after the war remained only 780 thousand square meters... Maybe Deportation law was the most foolish decides of them but it was war and many innocent Armenian and Turks died for nothing but charging a country with genocide which never unproved absolutely unfear.

The promise is a movie that promises you that something Eye catching is going to happen but it doesn't. The movie starts really quick with wonderful wide shots with a obviously high budget, very pleasing to see but nothing new. We get a love aspect quick and sponteanous, the building of the love is the same old, same old. One thing it surprises me is that they didn't really exploit Christian bale's talent, his character was missing something, I couldn't get if he was going to be bad or good, there were glimpses of him doing maybe something to make a plot twist but that didn't not happen. The 'plot twist' wasn't that but Ana drowning, bad timing, what a tragedy. The end was quick as the whole movie, they are all in peace now but there was so much missing. I know this is a movie based on historical happenings but from a Cinematographical perspective this movie lacked so much and it was made with a basic structure of the typical Drama, War and Love movie.
