The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;

This is a dark and sometimes deeply uncomfortable drama

There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.

So many bad reviews for a movie that was made for less than $100,000, come on people you guys act like your actual movie critics. I bet most of you don't even know good horror when you see it. Yes, the film has some flaws but many of the performances are good, the soundtrack is retro old school and come on Reggie Banister is in this! A decent horror flick when you think of how small the budget was! I liked it! I have seen much worse! The movie is shot in mostly one location because of the budget, some of the actors weren't as good as you would like but come on this is horror! I also love the opening sequence with the newspaper articles, cool concept. I also thought Hadley was very creepy especially when he says "I am the machine"..cool soundtrack, some creepy moments, not too shabby!

The Mangler Reborn starts as Jamie Blake (Aimee Brooks) arrives home after she gets the sack from her job only to find out that her husband is leaving her, can her day get any worse? Sure it can, a water pipe could break & she could call repair man Hadley Watson (Weston Blakesley) who in fact might turn out to be possessed by an evil laundry mangler & kidnaps female victims to shove in the mangler & get, well, mangled. Of course the odds of that happening are slim but it still happens anyway. Back at Watson's house where the evil laundry mangler resides he throw's Jamie into a room & locks the door, however unbeknown to either Jamie or Watson father & son burglary team Rick (Reggie Bannister) & Mike (Scott Speiser) are also trapped inside the house after the decided to rob it. Can the terrified survivors escape from the house & avoid becoming mangled in the mangler?Written & directed by Erik Gardner & Matt Cunningham this sequel to Tobe Hooper's horror flick The Mangler (1995) turned out a whole lot better than I had expected, I mean I hoped for the best but feared the worst & I have to say I even quite liked certain parts of this. At this point I should also add that it has no connection to The Mangler 2 (2001) which doesn't feature any possessed laundry machines & is one of the worst films of all time. Clocking in at just under the 80 minute mark at least the film is short & to the point, although the story is undeniably silly as it revolves around a possessed laundry press but the script takes itself extremely seriously & tries to generate a fair amount of intensity which it is partially successful at. While watching The Mangler Reborn I couldn't help but be reminded of Wes Craven's excellent The People Under the Stairs (1991) with the plot about burglars breaking into a house, becoming trapped inside by the lunatic owners & facing all sorts of evil & danger. I thought the character's were better fleshed out & written than usual for a low budget horror, for instance when Mike discovers what is going on he actually tries to leave Jamie behind & save himself just like most people would in reality or at the end when Jamie escapes her room instead of just running she tries to lock the door trapping Watson inside & it just comes across like the character's are actually thinking & reacting like a proper person would. Well, that's what I thought anyway. The one big downer is that it gets fairly repetitive being set in the same house for the entirety of the film & the twist sequel driven ending isn't great after having the balls to kill everyone off including all the good guy's as well there's a ending which seems to contradict previous events in the film.Going straight-to-DVD I quite liked the simple way this was shot, there's no altering the speed of shot's, there's no colour bleaches or filters, there's no quick 'blink and you will miss it' editing & there's no shaky 'what's going on' hand-held camcorder photography. Basically you can see what's going on at all times & it's nice & clear which works for me. This is probably a bit gorier than the average straight-to-DVD low budget horror film & thankfully there's not a single horrible CGI computer effect in sight, a woman shoves her high heel shoe in someone's ear & there's a close-up as he pulls it out, there's a fair amount of blood splatter & some close-ups of people being put into the mangler & being stabbed & mangled. The mangler itself looks a bit silly as it has a conveyor belt lined with robotic style arms with knives attached.With a supposed budget of about $200,000 this is nothing more than competent & looks basic but at least you can see what's happening. Filmed in Los Angeles apparently. The acting is OK, a special mention goes to Aimee Brooks who is a very nice looking young lady if you know what I mean. Genre fans might recognise Reggie Bannister from the Phantasm series in which he plays Reggie.The Mangler Reborn turned out a whole lot better than I expected & with some fairly intense scenes, a very attractive leading lady & some decent gore I have to say this exceeded my expectations. It is certainly a lot better than The Mangler 2 & looks like Citizen Kane (1941) by comparison.

While "The Mangler Reborn" is certainly not a masterpiece, it is better than what is reflected in most comments about the film. It is a rare example of a low budget horror film that is played totally straight, no humor and very little self-parody. With a budget of just $85,000 they had to be very inventive so don't expect elaborate production design or special effects. The title character looks like a cafeteria dishwasher being operated by "Edward Scissorhands". They try to pass the thing off as sinister by always showing it in shadows. When a victim is fed to the thing they change to very tight shots of knives and clippers, trying to make it seem like they are part of the machine rather than being held by crew members off-camera. Obviously the film would benefit from a more elaborate and diabolical device, or at least one with some credibility. But the Stephen King inspired premise is a good one and the first two thirds of the film set it all up very nicely. It is almost captivating for a while but finally runs out of gas and plods through the final 30 minutes.An appliance repairman (Weston Blakesley) has acquired the cursed parts from the original "Mangler" (named for the old-style washing machine with external rollers to squeeze the water out of clothes) and is obsessively working to reinvent the lethal thing. Eventually he becomes possessed by the machine and more zombie than human. He must feed it humans because he needs to drink their "squeezins" to keep his zombie body from decaying. Blakesley is quite credible as the slack jawed zombie who takes a rubber mallet on his repair calls and acquires his victims from among his customers. His life is complicated when a father and son burglar team (Reggie Bannister and Scott Speiser) attempt to rob his house and when his daughter comes for a visit. Aimee Brooks gets a whole bunch of standard scream queen moments and is extremely attractive. The main problem is that not enough happens to sustain an eighty-minute feature. Had a parallel story periodically cut in and built up a bit of suspense, "The Mangler Reborn" could have been a engaging little film. Then again, what do I know? I'm only a child.

First Mangler movie is not all bad, typical b horror flick nothing special but not that bad. Second movie was bad but one could tolerate it cause you kind of know what to espect from this sort of films. The Mangler Reborn makes no sense, the plot is rubbish and reminds me of a cheap Saw ripoff. Horror films are scary and suppose to be this one is not the least bit scary in anyway, there are few gruesome scenes that are more of bad taste than anything else. I get the feeling that the whole crew of this movie just went through the motions of making it and put minimum effort into it, there is truly nothing good about this film at all. Evil Dead,Bad Taste and the likes of them are great films that i really enjoy, made with a small budget but Sam Raimi and Peter Jackson made them with there heart and soul. Stay clear of this movie and i have learn my lesson and will stay clear if they make another one.
