The Maestro: King of the Cowboy Artists Trailers

What happens when a dedicated husband and father quits his job, adopts the persona of a Western-Movie Singing Cowboy, takes on the entire art establishment (including Christo and Andy Warhol), and refuses to accept money for his art ? Meet Gerry Gaxiola, AKA The Maestro, an ex-wage slave who gave up everything to make art for art's sake. The Maestro's story could inspire a whole new generation of Van Goghs.

I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.

This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

Les Blank, best known for his Herzog doc, BURDEN OF DREAMS, which won a British Academy Award, has spent 40 some years making acute, incisive, documentaries about unique individuals, Louisiana culture, food, and music as his main themes. MAESTRO is an enormously entertaining film about an unconventional "cowboy" artist who sets himself against Andy Warhol and refuses to accept any money for his art. Les Blank creates a curious ethnography of The Maestro's way of life and ideologies. Visit Les' website to find out more about his films.
